hey boys and girls!

  Top of Page

hey guys/girls!  i'm a lazy bastard, so I've cut and paste the same intro as I've used on the liberty.asn.au forum!
thought I'd introduce myself. I *was* going to buy a Mitsubishi EVO9, but decided it was too hardcore and lacking in the luxury department, so instead I've just picked up a black Liberty GT 2005 model with 7,500kms on the clock. I plan to run her in for another few months to check for any defects, then start modifying her.
Looking forward to getting to know you all. Here are my vital stats:
Name: Hieu
Ride: 2005 Liberty GT black
Location: Canberra/Sydney
Mod: Bog stock standard for now
Plans: Hyperflow TMIC, Exhaust, ECUTek, CAI/filter, suspension, STi rear/front lip (or aftermarket front end). Then might chase 200kw atw with larger turbo, UP/DP if the bug bites!
Occupation: IT Solution Architect
Year of birth: 1976
Previous Rides worth a mention:
* Liberty B4: MRT ECUTek, exhaust/CAI
* Lancer GSR: Tony Rigoli prepared 2L 4G63T 12.0sec quarter
* Legacy GT Wagon
* RX7 S3, 13B Turbo, mildport, 3mm seals, S5 hiflow turbo, Microtech MTX8 tuned by Ric Shaw

Re: hey boys and girls!

hey lance.
my reason for selling the B4 was simply that I wanted a newer car that would be easier to extract power from.  The twin turbo setup in the B4 is not ideal for tweaks (without a single turbo conversion).. having said that, it seems that the 2.0L GT with the twin-scroll turbo isn't great for extracting power either!  Both AVO and MRT have quoted me $10K to get 200kw atw (but i'll start another thread on that later).  I want to run a flat 13.0 quarter damn it!  can't have those standard HSV's and FPV's beating me!
the B4 was great.. it was hard to justify paying $20K more for the GT than what i sold the B4 for.. but this is the price you pay for wanting a later model car.  I wouldn't buy brand-new though.

don't underestimate a turbocharged rotor!  they fckn haul ass!   The rx7 was a weapon!  The GSR was alot faster though, dump the clutch at 5,000rpm and you have approx. 4.5 second 0-100 times

oh - here are some pics of the B4 and GSR.

Hey, welcome to the forums...

Seems u have travelled the same road as me, lol....

The lancer was a GL which i converted to an Evo 2 including the 4wd conversion and you are right, the lancer was nuts (spin all 4 off the line and chirp with each gear change!).   But i sold the lancer and did the single turbo conversion to the B4, definitely worth it!

awesome.. nice cars SUB4RU..

i actually saw your car (pics) when I had the B4 and contemplated keeping it and modifying it.  Your B4 is a sweet ride buddy - very tough.  Have you had it dyno'd?

Rotors are tough, but unreliable if not correctly modified.  i went through 2 blown motors when i had the rx7.  It spent more time off the road than on it!

hey Kosti, yeah i'm very happy with the GT.

Don't want to offend any B4 owners, but i really like the sleeker shape of the GT compared to the B4's boxiness - if you've seen a "tuned by Sti" GT in the flesh you'll know what i'm talking about!  And the interior is obviously alot more modern.  But as I've said before, not sure it's worth $20K more!

Performance wise, it's difficult to compare the two.. the B4 is alot more linear in power delivery because of the twin turbo setup.  The GT feels more like a turbo charged car (pushes you back in your seat more as boost builds up at higher revs).  I'm guessing that my B4 with CAI/muffler/ECUTek might accelerate slightly quicker than the stock GT, but not by much.

GT as a standard car is a nice bit of gear.  firm ride, body roll not too bad, twin scroll turbo gives good torque at lower revs.
