k so I'm looking for a new car I currently own a 92 liberty wagon NA and I want something with a bit more power and looks good, I've been looking at a 98 GT forester and a 01 legacy twin turbo but I think the forester looks cooler but the legacy would have a lot more power Any opinions would be great thanks

The early Forester GTs apparently had a turbo even smaller than a td04 (which is very small to begin with) so if you want power, there would be some work to do.
On the other hand, the twin turbo system is notoriously unreliable and a lot of people convert to single to get away from it...

some people change the TT system back to single cause they think their gay(Ganguskarn)LOL

Re: help

i changed because of tunning i have a problematic ecutek tune that had a flutter underload i changed every sensor and solenoid in the car, MRT performance gaurenteed it wasn't there tune, so there wasnt the lack of trying mate plus, there is not one tuner or workshop that can dyno/problem solve tunes here with a twin turbo setups, i changed to single turbo and adopted a LINK44s ecu , which really was outdated for what i was after , i am about to upgrade to a VIPEC PNP ( made by link but cheaper ) to get all the cool motor sport features,

fuel wise i went from 360-450kms per tank to 580kms every tank.

my experience if u have a TT and like it leave it , dont ECUTEK or anything ( the chip torque product is a different story) at least you can change tunes to problem solve
there is a few guys that can flash tune the B4 , once again , easy to problem solve.

if u want to go Single turbo on the B4 , the WRX bugeye is so close to the b4 its not funny, most parts are interchangeable.

subi b4, id cut its nuts off because they are that small you cant even see em!

This. From the outside looking in, its generally those that mod the TT that have major issues. There is plenty of information around now though. Up here there is a GTB that has a lot of work done (from what I heard/saw) and he loves it, so its not an impossible task to work with the system.

I really enjoy mine. Other than some bolt on mods to improve the car, I haven't touched the motor at all. Its not perfect, but I treat it nice, and it treats me nice. I prefer to drive it over most other cars. Of course time has shown a single turbo is better, with B4 money a year ago, I haven't regretted the purchase at all.

Re: help

this old chestnut again...

if you like the tt system great, enjoy it. The system when working is fine.

I guess one thing to consider is how many people have converted their tt’s to single, why they did this and are they happy with the result. I’ve never heard someone a) regret going single or b) converting a single to tt set up (unless they are doing a custom parallel system).

My Liberty lasted two weeks as a tt before I converted that to single and my Legacy had the GT running gear and drive line pulled out and converted to V4 STI items.

There are a couple of reasons people do convert. Maintenance issues being a major one and the ease of further mods on a single set up the other. For me both where reasons to do it

Re: help

firstly a single turbo will always be better on fuel then a TT , as the TT is on boost at 1900rpm.

the 208 is a 9;1 comp motor remember this when converting to sinlge, your tune has to be spot on! or $$$$

DARKRS had the right idea dropping a 207 sti in,

my plans are still in progress with a 04 sti bottom end with ported avcs heads and with some anti lag and launch control....the time to ditch the 208 is getting closer.....
people always ask me , why didnt i just buy a wrx.....
the Gen 3 lib is a better shape IMO , you only have to look at al's build of the v12 Twin turbo Gen3 on subyclub to show what can be done:P and those bad boys arnt staged.

if the B4 LIBERTY came out standard in a single turbo they would of sold a heap more.

So you asked and there you go

my personal opinion is
libs look better than imperza plus theres to many wrx's and a forester would come before rex aswell
if you want a nice cruise car with some punch go the b4 tt and keep it well maintained but as everyones has already noted THIRSTY
If you want a car to work it up go the forester first larger turbo as they are quite small
side by side standard i would say b4tt way more power than forester
but once you start to work them the tt system can only be tweak a little with out running in to problems
and the forester can be done to get way more power out of it and still use less fuel then the b4tt standard

Probably worth noting that a B4 will handle quite a lot better than a 98 Forester as well.

Subaru92,

If you've got a wagon and like it, why not look for a 2001 Legacy TT Wagon to replace it?
I'm planning to put mine on the market.

I love my Legacy. had it for four years now and in two different countries. But I wouldnt mind having the power band a bit lower and easier access to aftermarket parts. They are both nice cars, just find one of either in top condition.

Re: help

its the same old nutshell. what to buy, wrx harsh a brute loads of fun, b4 legacy gtb, wolf in sheeps clothing, forester under powered, drives like a skate board(unless u mod it)
driven all three cars found the b4/gtb the best of all for sheer fun factor, and with a few mods a gr8 car!
