shooping at woolies for discount easter eggs is a part of bieng orthodox. everyone makes this pilgramige at some stage.

for those that dont know the easter fast goes for 55 days and u cant have any meat, seafood or dairy so u can imagine how much we all eat after its over. i Guarantee none of u have ever seen so much meat dissappear so quickly.

Nik and Paul you get holidays for the 25th xmas and new year and then if your serbian you are sick the following dates 6th 7th then the 13th/14th january then your sick on the the long weekend australia day as its Saint sava day and its a mad party at canberra for 3 days...your also sick on your Slava which is saint celabration.... and then in august for the Folk festival at Bonnyrigg....its always the same dates that im sick on during the year:bye:

Serbian Orthodox here as well. as per below.
My wife fasts a week before easter every year on water (no meats, dairy etc) but then you can go to confession and communion on the sat and then break fast @ midnight on sunday by shouting Hristos voskrese (Jesus has risen) very nice service.

My saint day is 19th Dec (St Nicholas' day) but we also celebrate St. George (5 May)  and we have another in July (all you serbs translate ilija for me!!!)

So my sick days are always xmas 6/7, 26jan (im in Canberra so always great!), 5may, august and december!

Xmas was always good as a kid, 2 xmas's and easter (my parents thought it unfair that the other kids got presents b4 me!!!)

Post is good for you, i usually fast on oil (fish etc) but have only fasted on water once. on water is only vegetables and fruit (bread too but without oil etc)
