Gym Junkies Unite

  Top of Page

I'm sure there's a few others out there like me that habitually head for the gym every night after work, fess up!

Just interested to see how many others hit the gym on a regular interval, what you train and your reasons for doing it. Lets hear it folks big_smile

I dont go to gym because I dont think its necessary but i'll say something cos i'm bored and this is a discussion. The reasons will be the same

1) To look good
2) To stay fit
3) For sports training
4) Shaping up for a wedding or something

The reason i dont go to the gym is because like most human beings, once u stop you'll look like shyte. Yes its good to look tanked when you're young but its a superficial. I've never won an argument with a gym junkie cos most will say the same thing. I play sport and do on a regular basis and occasionally do light weights but thats about it. When i see people throwing money into gyms, I wonder why they just dont go play a sport. Of course sport isn't the ultimate solution because gyms offer more services than weights and treadmills but competitive sport usually is enough for the average joe.

Fair point and I see where you're coming from with the just doing a sport comment. I used to spend about 10 hours a week training, but then stopped for my HSC a few years ago and got ridiculously unfit. After another year or so I hit the gym because I was sick of being fat, and then went back to sport and loved it.
Best thing was, because I was cross-training at the gym when I went back to sport I whooped ass over everyone just doing regular training.

Unfortunately then I started suffering from injury-itis. I'd come home after every session with something else wrong, and haven't been able to go back since, so now I just hit the gym instead...

I hit the gym up 4 times a week, bascially just want to put on a bit of size and drop the excess weight round the middle. Also helps with basketball as im now able to shoot from higher up then i used to and i can run faster and jump higher -shrug-

Sport and gym is a good combination but then again it depends on what sport and what level of sport you play. I play indoor soccer once a week and its very competitive so stamina and all that is important but having a huge build isn't necessary. If you play sports like AFL or  NRL then you prob need to have a bit of muscle but again that depends on what level you play. For most people it isn't necessary but like you said, if you go to gym then you'll be much better conditioned than those who do regular training. I'm not a huge fan of weights because it does put a lot of stress on your joints and there have been heaps of discussion into the long term effects of weights training.

I think it's a great idea for you to all unite in one spot.

That way we can wipe you out in one go.

I'll leave a plate of donuts at the door. That should distract you long enough for us to get away :victory:

Haha, if you'd ever met me you'd know how funny that really is.

Sorry for the jack, boys. The most fun I have with gym equipment is putting it all together - then I don't use it. Then I whinge about being skinny.

Then I get drunk, and all is well.

Carry on.

Cheers,
Nik

Not really, I used to drink protein shakes after a workout mainly because my diet sucked. Now I've fixed my diet so I don't use 'em now. Not really interested in being huge so I don't see the point in wasting money on em :glare:

Re: Gym Junkies Unite

reasons i got into it was cos when i was back in echuca i was managing a restaurant, n didnt have much else to do, 4pm start 2pm finish, n sleeping sucks ass. so got stuck into the gym.

was in there every second day for 1hr to 1.5hr, other days pushy riding.

also not long after i started an x body builder friend said get stuck into BABY formula (i know sounds dodgy) but baby formula has same stuff most good body building suplements(formulas) have only at a higher concentrate, only differance it tastes like s**t.

i put on 12kg in month and half (no roids) im lucky enough to bulk up easy as ive always been an active person from little same with my parents.

So where's the difference?

Dunno if I could cop telling people that I'm taking baby formula though, no matter what the reason is tongue 12kg in 1.5 months is pretty damned impressive though!

12kg in a month! Shyte. What happens if u drink those protein shakes and dont work out regularly? Does it just turn to fat? I've always wanted to put on a few more kilos just to look slightly more bigger but not obviously big.

Re: Gym Junkies Unite

yes exactly, u dont work out n drink the shakes or the formula, it will turn to fat.

the difference is just the concentrate, much higher.

check it out, oh n it costs about an 8th the price, protein shakes cost.

i went from doing light to medium machine weights 15kg etc up to 25kg n some 35kg weights.

what i was looking for was not looking like a march twat but just tone up, so after 2months i got off the formula n just continued the work out.
(then i had a bike crash after 6months, n now moved to melb n only no the doctors say i can do light weight strengthening work outs.)

Spot on. I'd say putting on some more muscle bulk would be a better way of looking bigger than putting on fat though tongue

damn man, that is a massive increase. i thought i used to be able to stack on weight but that is just insane.

i used to use protein shakes but couldnt really see/feel them making a difference so these days i tend to just use a magnesium supplement, a bit of fish oil and occasionally l-carnitine

serously guys check out the baby formula next time u in the supermarket there will b a few diff types choose which u want. all about the same.

i went from 60kg or so up to 71-73kg, i hate the massive bulk look so thats y i stopped, taking the formula, so i didnt keep getting bigger bigger n bigger.

its like tanning find the colour u want then go back onece to twice a week so u keep your colour.

oh by the way im only a little guy. im about 5"8' so not the tallest guy, so what i do put on looks bigger than most people.

Oh yeah i didn't mean i was going to put it on and just grow a gut haha. I need more fat to convert it into muscle. Right now i think i'm orright tone wise for my height/build but i wanted to add on another 5kg or so. If i did put on 5kg and turn it into muscle then i stop, would i lose the muscle but still keep the weight?
