Grandpa Liberty

  Top of Page

Having sold my ol' modified 100kw Corolla, I was on the look for something a touch newer with a few luxuries for a change, instead of a mini race car tongue Being my 4th car after less than 2 years (no crashes on my behalf big_smile), I knew what to look for in a good car.
Initially looking at ~'93 Mazda 626s, Dad kept hinting to get a Liberty, since he owned a 3rd Gen. So I thought I'd have a look at one, just to keep him quiet! Well, I was rather impressed, and this particular one had everything + MORE than what I wanted. So, without further hesitation I handed over the cash and drove away!
Its a 1992 Liberty GX w/ all the features like Cruise Control, Air-Con, Power Steering, Power Windows, Rear Spoiler etc. in VERY good condition, having been owned by 2 elderly couples since new! This explains why its Grandpa-Spec atm, however I am looking to change a few things, like a set of stock 16" WRX/Liberty alloys, a nice quality stereo system and possibly the one-piece Legacy taillights. Apart from that, it will be staying untouched until I pick up my Open Licence. Anyway, enough talk, here's the Grandpa Liberty big_smile

Re: Grandpa Liberty

Cheers all! Would've loved an RS, but I don't want to risk becoming addicted to the acceleration tongue

First thing I've lined up is to install the HU. The installation is easy enough, but what have people used where there will be a spare slot i.e factory double din tape player? Probably end up installing another pocket like the one below smile

Some awesome Liberty's on here btw! wink

Was it an sx or gti corolla you sold?

Mine's still a grandpa RX, and driven like one 95% of the time.

Re: Grandpa Liberty

Hey all

Just a bit of an update!

At the start of December, my poor Liberty G'Box called it quits, and forced me to take the car off the road! Gave me the chance to do a few mods :yes2:

* First step, was to remove the gearbox. I was considering a manual conversion, but decided I didn't want the hassle or the cost at this stage of the year. That and the fact I'll be needing my car at the start of February (holidays over!). So after a few hours and a few complications, I single handedly removed the complete Auto tranny from the vehicle, and dropped it off at a recommended Auto specialist.

* I didn't like the plain appearance of the 16" WRX alloys, and I didn't think they suited the whole black + gold theme of the car. So, after a bit of DIY action, they are now black w/ polished lip! They look absolutely superb, and it was a very worthwhile venture.

* Bought a set of white on black QLD personalised plates, which set the whole package off.

I only have the one picture, as its kind of squashed in the backyard, but tell me what you think!
