by Plays_with_toys on 10-12-07 09:56 AM I am just curious, being that I am in the U.S., what are the thoughts on global warming over across the bigger pond? In the US people debate it's authenticity. Some think that global climate change is occurring as a direct result of human impact and others think it's nature's cyclical process. This isn't so much a question of your own personal belief, although feel free to toss it in, I'm curious as a nation what Australia, New Zealand, and your neighbors think of the issue. |

I'm with Brenda. Mostly because of this (from Wikipedia): The earth naturally warms up and cools down. Give it a few thousand years and people will be whinging about global cooling... If you ask me, Y2k ended and the conspiracy nuts realised they had to come up with something new, and along came global warming. |

by ams on 10-12-07 11:46 AM In saying all this, we've never raped the atmosphere as bad as we have in the last, say, 50-100 years...who know's what effect or on what scale our atmo-raping (new catch phrase) will have in another 100, 200 or 500 years.

Patronising remarks, appealing to authority and saying "better not risk it" doesn't make much of an argument. I suggest YOU pull YOUR head out the sand. |

by RPM on 10-12-07 01:44 PM Now boys, don't get personal. I've voted for both parties in the past, never been on the dole, or hugged a tree (thou I did dance with one that I thought was a person when maggotted at a Thailand beach, another story), and I have a hot wife and 4 kids, so I don't think the lesbian thing fits either. |

You made the claim that "Global Warming" is man made, therefore the burden of proof lies with you. Enlighten the non-believers knowledgable one. |

by theprotest on 10-12-07 03:24 PM I am not afraid of healthy debate, just check out my username. But I think threads such as these, which as proven here always end up as politically charged personal opinions, should be left off of a car forum. |

Now see, I think there are a few issues which can be seperated and I think many can agree on. The climate is changing. and Technology is growing rapidly. I think that our emissions and waste definately have an impact on what is going on. Whether they are the root cause, I'm not sure, and as stated, some of the most respected scientists have staked there name and reputation in that belief, and that holds merit in my book. Now, as far as technology I think it is irresponsible of us and honestly it's just bad business practice to not make technology more efficient. Why settle for gas guzzling V8's? My friend told me about a project that I think ford or lincoln did in the 70's using atomizing fans in the carburetor of a large town car. It averaged over 50 miles to the gallon in the city, which compared to the dismal 22-28 I get in my car, and the even more dismal 12-18 american cars get nowadays it just doesn't make sense. How can engine technology not have improved in 30 years? There is a local brewery in town that recaptures steam from it's fermenters and such and gets back 15% of it's total power consumption. The other 85% comes from windpower, and because of this efficiency in production it has actually created greater profit. So if global climate change is a result of humans or not, doesn't stop the fact that it is happening and we should start to think of how we will deal with it, and further more, we should be looking at progressing technology that is not wasteful. |

Ok boys, here is a wee bit of info for you... CSIRO, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, is Australia's national science agency and one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world. CSIRO scientists and the climate change debate CSIRO scientists are substantial contributors to the growing body of knowledge about climate change globally and in the Australian region.
* The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change * FindingsCSIRO's role
"http://www.ozliberty.com/forums/"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change They are among more than 2 000 scientists who contributed to global understanding of climate change impacts and adaptation, risk, and opportunities for mitigation collated in 2007 by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). "http://www.ozliberty.com/forums/"Findings The IPCC confirmed that human activity has increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, including carbon dioxide – in 2007 at its highest level for 650 000 years. The presence of such high concentrations of greenhouse gases is altering the Earth’s climate, raising temperatures and impacting on the landscape. The science is complex, involving physical and chemical processes of the oceans, atmosphere and polar and glacial regions. Researchers use satellites, ships, buoys and robots to observe these processes; and model the processes to look back at past changes. You can go to the CSIROs web site for a lot more detailed info if you want. |
