Got my B4 chipped and tuned today...

  Top of Page

Hey all,

Well, I finally got my black beauty chipped and tuned today (With a unichip) and the results speak for themselves.

140kw to 173.1 and the car is stock standard apart from a diffback exhaust (to get rid of the stupid open/close valve in the stock exhaust).
Tuner said it's the best result he's seen on a B4 that he's done.
I'm super impressed and it hauls like a train now.
Driving off boost is heaps nicer too.

Getting it done at CnJ
Car is stock.
Just wanting to tune out a little bit of the VOD out, increase fuel economy and bump up the boost a bit.
They can't wait to do it (and neither can I!!!)

Tell me about it...
Crazy numbers for no mods. The tuner was blown away by the results.

odd that it increased the VOD, but with the 2nd turbo boosting to 14/15psi it will be a massive difference over stock smile
Guess the unichip doesnt really have much control on changing the stuff around the VOD.

Looks like a good result, congrats smile Should be a nicer drive

Yeah, it drives much nicer now.
I know the VOD looks bigger, but it doesn't feel it at all.
And yes, the 2nd turbo boosting feels and sounds very nice now.
Super happy after 2 weeks of driving it.

Tune looks great, and good to see the results from a piggyback install. Makes you wonder what you would get with a full exhaust.

Just curious, was the before dyno run taken before the exhaust change?

Wow that is awesome power from the stock gear, I'd honestly like to know what mine still gives, its still very smooth with 160k on it and stock tune (to my knowledge). I think it drives well anyway, best Auto I have ever driven. As an example I planted it from stop with a mate in the car last weekend and it pulled all the way to naughty speeds without any hesitations, no surging when I cruise at highways speeds, and so far, no pinging.. we'll find out when it warms up though. I'll try not to drive it on 35+ days anyway.

I am also interested to see what yours would do with a full exhaust system... I am tempted to just do my diffback for a little noise, but I am not going nuts since I plan to upgrade in a year or two. Would rather use the money on a newer ride, and as I said, pretty damn happy with how it drives.

Thats the thing.  We shouldn't have to worry that much about driving in the heat and wonder when/if our engines will sh1t itself.

Hey guys,

The Before dyno run had the diffback installed on it already.
I'd tossed up putting a full exhaust on it, but didn't really have the money for it at the time.

But as you guys have said, for the stock running gear, I'm pretty impressed with the results.
So far, I haven't heard any pinging, but the test will come in summer I guess. (and yeah B4cruiser... I agree we shouldn't have to worry about that!)

Just outta curiosity, if an engine pings, how many times can it happen before things go bad??

If its bad, I believe it only takes a couple times to cause damage. But I drove mine when I first bought it in summer heat without any issues. Seems to effect some but not others. If your tuner did it right, there should be less chance of it happening now. I just stick to BP Ultimate, and so far haven't had any engine trouble, other than every once in a while, a hard start from cold, but I have a feeling its just the ECU, cause' if I turn the key off, then back on, it fires first go.

Ill show you in the new year tongue

Im going to do dyno runs of, std tune, car std, std car but tuned, and then hoping to find the differences in replacing downpipes, mid and rear exhaust, potentially headers too. And do it in stages to see what makes the most difference. Cost more but im curious to find out how things affect it.

I'd be interested to see how those different things affect it all.
I didn't think that the diffback would do a lot, but the tuner seems to think it had quite a difference (noticable at least) to the stock one.
A month in and I am soo glad I did it.
It just sucks that my foot seems to have all of a sudden become much heavier more regularly when taking off from a standing start, or merging onto a freeway smile
Spend money to only burn more on fuel now..... I just don't tell the wife that bit!

What diffback do you have, and does it make a difference to the sound (got a clip?). I'm not looking to go nuts with mine. But also don't want a cannon, I was looking under it the other day and it seems to be decent size until the diffback, which it then steps down to the muffler..

I did my tax and got more than I was expecting back, so I may use a bit on the car.. Gen4 5 spokes is the current plan.. I needa ring the wrecker tomorrow and see what he has. The gutter rash and fading center caps is getting to me lol.

Re: Got my B4 chipped and tuned today...

I was planning on getting a 'nicer' diffback (a genome or a fujitsubo), but a 3" X-force came up for sale in the next suburb for me for $80 in good nick, and it cost me $100 to get it modified and fitted.
I didn't want a cannon either.
I was told I wasn't allowed one too loud (and I didn't want one either), and when you are driving with the windows up, it is just a quiet purr, but if you get up it, it is still not that loud.
I'll try and get a video of it today and put it up.

How hard does the car shove when you hit the secondary turbo? I dont have a tune, and only have a catback exhaust (with high flow cat) and when I hit the secondary, the car gives a big shove. Kind of makes me worry about how long my diff will last.

When I first bought my Legacy, I put a Sti Genome diffback on. It looked good and sounded good but was just not loud enough for me. Plus the sti item only has 2.5 piping, so did nothing for performance. A few months later, I purchased a Fujitsubo diffback which when on, it sounded a bit deeper but still not very loud. The Fujitsubo has 3inch entry and had better performance. Even with my full catback now, the car isnt very loud. TTs seem to be a lot less louder than the singler turbo cousins.

That sounds quite nice... and its not a cannon! I just want a bit of rumble, I am not chasing loud, just... sexy boxer noise? I found some wheels up north, the guy wants a tad too much... that and a diffback, bye bye tax cheque... hello sex on wheels? I might go speak to a decent exhaust shop about the exhaust.

Sounds good imprezab.

i've got a magnaflow. Quiet at idle with a slight rumble but a nice volume as it breathes. Doesn't attract the attention of boys in blue which is good.
