G'day! Newbie Member :)

G'day All!

Been lurking around the forums for a few weeks now, ever since I got my B4.

I was (still am) a lcommodore fan, having owned a 304 VH SL/E, genuine HDT VN Aero and VL Calais with VT clubsport motor, but I felt a change was in order after I sold my VL. The B4 caught my eye - classy, powerful and different. And I must say, I haven't regretted it yet!

At the moment the car is stock - only future plans are a ECUTEK tune from Amberley's to cure pinging/VOD, and probably a brake upgrade (I find the brakes a bit lacking through the hills)

About me - I'm 22, work in IT and help run a Melbourne based car club.

Couple of pics:

So yeah - hopefully I'll post around a bit!

Cheers,
Chris

Hey and welcome to the forums.

Should find plenty of info about the B4 if u ever need it.  EcuTek seems a hot topic as everyone has a diff opinion on it.  I'm awaiting the final results from Shinchan before i make my decision.

Shame i can't see pics of your car from work, will check em out when i get home.  Enjoy!

Kev.

Cheers fellas,

Yep, definitely noticed ECUTEK is a hot topic among people. Personally, I'm not after monster mods, and from what I can tell ECUTEK is like a LS1Edit for the Gen3 (which is obviously the only way to go with modding Gen3's) I figure if I can get the ECU re-written without the need to get a piggy back unit, why not just do that? I'm not a big fan of piggy backs 'tricking' the ECU - I'd rather get a re-tune (avoiding any kind of EPA issues), or, if required, get a whole new unit, like a MOTEC. And since I'm not doing anything other then a tune, MOTEC is a bit of overkill smile

also with the brakes, most people go slotted up the front with some nice pads.

but as said in my other post, there is HEAPS of info about mods which can/have been done to B4's on here.

but i cant stress more....use the search function to avoid starting a new thread which has proberly been done to death before

Yeah welcome!! I joined up here not long ago and so far this forum has been really nice smile

Its a big change going from the Commodores to an AWD Liberty I'd imagine. Good 'ol VL's....Holden fitted the smallest tires possible and the biggest engine they could get their hands onto, haha! I've seen so many of them listed under "wrecks" in the newspaper, lol.

Your B4 looks good and its in the best colour. Enjoy!

iv heard a couple of times that the brakes on the B4 have troubles. even with new slotted rotors and pads. without taking the piss...is maybe the B4 too heavy to stop a car more powerful then a rexy but still using the same brakes?

the b4's have bigger brakes than the rexy.
early ones have 294mm and the later have 330mm. both twin piston calipers.

I help run a car club called AUSREVS - got a cruise tomorrow night wink

I have to admit - after the inital joy of AWD, I kinda missed RWD (and low down torque) So I went and test drove a VX Calais 5.7ltr today. And to be totally honest - I wasn't that impressed with it! So I'm going to remain steadfast - first on the agenda for the B4 is some lowered springs, and possibly a tune...

i know where your coming from having  had two v8 commo's, heaps of torque and rwd is so much fun. lift off oversteer can be had quite easy in the b4 which is some compensation. (still not the same, which is why i have a friend with an xr6t who loves getting up it).
