Fuel Comparison, be part of the test!

  Top of Page

HI

Just wanted to know what everyone usues for fuel and what kind of consumption they get. For the past few weeks I have used Shell Optimax and driven about the same each time. To try and keep things in perspective please list the car, brand of fuel inc RON.

Here are my results

Car: Liberty B4 2001 no mods

Fuel: Shell Optimax 98

1) 11.8L / 100km
2) 12.5L / 100km
3) 12.2L / 100Km

It would be great if we got a good sample of fuel types from the same people to get accurate results

You work out the maths..............MY97 Jap spec STI in a Liberty.
511kilometers  for 53.7 litres around town with a fair bit of hammering.
450 kilometers for 40 litres on a country run with a bit of hammering.
I can only use BP98 as its the only high octane fuel available in W.A. & I should be using 100 octane....... but I never get less than 530 K's to a tank, even after a long cruise hammering the crap out of it.

XXB4XX, thats not alot. Might need to get it checked unless its all city driving.

K&N Panel Filter and Resonectomy

11.4L / 100km (480km per full tank which i assume is 55) on BP Ultimate. Similar results with Mobile.

This is half freewa driving and peak hr taffic.

Is that per 60L or till it reads empty? big difference. I've got an impreza that reads empty with over 20L left in the tank

I think the b4 Tanks are 64L

For the guys that are only getting 380km a tank in a B4 or thats about 13.7L / 100Km you must be pushing it hard!!

I think the car was rated at 10.8L /100Km round the town and 8.9L/100Km on the open road.

For thoes who dont know how to do the math ( (L / KM)) * 100) eg if you travelled 380KM and used 52L it would be 52 / 380 = .137  * 100 = 13.7 L/100km

Just remember guys keep your posts standard when listing your fuel results

Hi Guys,
I've got a 93 Liberty RS Turbo, pod filter,3 inch turbo back exhaust, std engine IHI turbs.Best consumption so far is 330km/31 litres all h'way driving. With other EJ20 extractors and TD05h 330km/34 litres on h'way. This is how far I drive  from home to start work each week so it gives me a good idea on consumption. The worst I've ever done is 50km/15 litres or about a quater of a tank for the 50km trip but I was showing the workmates just how (bad it could be/hard it goes). So if I get roughly 10km/ litre on the highway I'm happy, around town well  :Dntknw: Cheers,Craig.

it varies... but I get around 9-10L/100km city driving in 02 RX.

(I also get around 11L/100km in 99 GT Forester - not bad considering the power diference)

Car: 1999 Liberty RX - all standard bar K&N panel filter

Fuel: Caltex Vortex 98, 7-11 premium unleaded

1) 10.1L / 100km ( 256km from 26L )
2) 10.5L / 100km ( 296km from 31L )

That's 50% freeway driving.

WOW

Much to my suprise here are my last results

Car: 2001 B4

Fuel: BP Ultimate 98
1) 13.5l /100Km

Just to recap on my previous results

Fuel: Shell Optimax 98

1) 11.8L / 100km
2) 12.5L / 100km

Fuel: Caltex Vortex 98

1) 11.9L/100km

Witht the way alot of guys bag out shell and rave about BP / Caltex i would have thought that I would have gotten better fuel fuel economy out of  BP / Caltex rather then Shell.

It would be great if you guys keep posting your results each time you can remember when you fill up to get a better picture of which fuel is better to use.

Re: Fuel Comparison, be part of the test!

I think the b4 Tanks are 64L
I think you are right but I dont go through my reserve so my calculations are based on when the light comes and filled up until it clicks.

I consistently get around 450kms out of a full tank cos my average day is like this

1) 20min peak hr to get onto the freeway
2) 10min on the freeway
3) 10-15min to get to work in peak hr
4) 15min to get onto freeway after work in peak hr
5) 10-15min drive on freeway
6) 25min drive to get home in peak hr

As you can see, its a mix of start/stop and freeway. I've noticed that if I drive a bit more on the weekends, it tends to drink alot of fuel. So i reckon if you dont do much freeway driving, you should still be getting 400km at least for a stockie.

Re: Fuel Comparison, be part of the test!

yesterday i filled up 33.1L shell premium 95 for 328km.

just now i filled up with 7-11 premium 31.40L for 313.4km. 600 metres off a perfect 10.0L/100km

having regular @ 139.9c - 144.9c/litre is so gay. and mobil is blaming the summer in USA. pfft. wasn't it around $1.09/litre in january? so 35c increase in three months. doesn't help that the government has their hand in our pockets for everything else either.

Vehicle is an 01 B4.
Country trip from Leigh Creek to Adelaide - 600km on cruise control @ 120km/h -  then 55km in Adelaide all with just 48 litres. Works out to 7.38L/100km!!!
That is after an ECUtek upgrade. Before I would have to reallllllly nurse it to get that economy.
That was using fuel from Leigh Creek where premium is 95 octane...and $1.70 per litre.
Average around town is usually 550km/45L with boosting if I am at the front of the lights and a bit of a drive thru the Adelaide Hills smile

Re: Fuel Comparison, be part of the test!

my last tank of fuel was Caltex's unleaded (91), due to the crazy fuel prices last week, and for some very very strange and unexpected reason i got better fuel economy than when i use 98RON fuel... =

though the fuel economy is better.. i can feel that the car's performance has decreased quite a bit while using the 91RON unleaded...

not sure what to do now..?

using normal unleaded would save me a bit of cash over time.. and cash is something i don't have much of as a uni student who works P/T...

but would i be better off using premium??

what is your opinion on this matter?
what would you use in my situation...?

for my N/A '03 RX, I only use 95RON premium fuels; BP, Mobil, Caltex, Shell... i do not get any performance, smoothness or extra km gains big enough to anywhere near justify the usual extra 10c / ltr that the 98RON fuels demand.

I think that 1 step up from what your car requires is a good compromise.
ie:  EJ25 N/A's require 91RON, so the next step up is 95RON  etc...
