I would buy a foz for offroad only.
However in saying that, that is exactly what my Liberty wagon is for smile
So can't help sorry haha

Not sure of the economy of the Foz but it has a 2.0 in it. The Lib will have a 2.2 and possibly a lighter body, which i'm only assuming will give better economy.

I've had a 97 Limited foxx, 99 GT Fozz and now a gen2 GT leggy wagon.

all cars have their place for the intended purpose.
the NA fozz I bought for use off-road as i down-graded from a traditional 4wd
the i realied that NA is gutless and bought a GT for the same purpose.
when i stopped using the GT off-road, i lowered it
and now i have a GT Leggy as i wanted an auto.

the liberty/ legacy is physically bigger with respect to cargo and rear passenger room
and yes, for the price of a 97 fozz you could get yourself into a 2.5 gen2 RX lib or a gen1 Legacy GT or RS Lib wagon.
