forced induction conversion

  Top of Page

hi everybody,

i'm looking at doin either a full turbo motor conversion (ej22t) into my gen 2 liberty/outback or supercharging (raptor superchargers) it. i've never driven a turbo car or been a pasanger in a turbo car, so i would like to ask every1 wat they think would be better.
both options would be equal in cost and both will end up needing more work done eventually, wouldn't mind a couple hundred killowats one day.

i'm sort of edging towards the supercharger because of the added torque, not to sure about doing the spark plug changes, its already hard enough without a supercharger in the way.

so feel free to let me know wat ya all think.

goin away for 10 days, so i may not reply until i get bak.

thanks.

If you're chasing power, go for a single turbo conversion. A V3 STI engine would be great in your car.

TBH, I wouldn't be able to stand the whine coming from the supercharger if so.

agree with them, superchargers are ****e. you only get peak torque at maximum rpm, they wine and they are inefficient (like an air con, they use power)

best option by far would be to put in a V3 or V4 WRX or STI half cut. for a gen2 this is considered the easiest and cheapest conversion to do. search function will reveal this, look for posts particularly by JZK25, he's the oz god of liberty conversions.

also, hitting boost in a turbo is soooooo much more fun, test drove a wrx the other day and it ****s all over my mates supercharged ute.

Ej22t? your talking about putting a kit onto your stock engine? not a good idea, waste of money as the internals are not up to handling the boost. it will cause huge problems.

if you are looking to get 200kW atw your cheapest, safest, easiest option is a V4STi half cut, use as much of it as you can in your car, eg brakes, gearbox, diff,  suspension, radiator etc.

another option is a GTB twin turbo half cut, but two turbos is far more trouble and isnt the best option for chasing big numbers, unless your billsy the mad scientist and have endless supplies of cash

another option to consider, is to sell and buy a car  that is already turbo, if its a converted liberty or (flamesuit ready) a wrx. but its always cheaper to buy it done, but not as much fun!

EDIT: if your looking at getting this done not doing it yourself, i would suggest AMAuto to do the work, many guys on this forum use them for conversions and not a bad word has been said about them
