first time subaru owner and poster

  Top of Page

Hi all, my name is Harry and I have just signed up on this forum, after doing a search on Subaru forums out there.
I have just purchased my first Subaru, to use as a daily driver. It's a 2003 MY03 B4, with the 4 speed auto. Black exterior.
I'm married, no kids yet. My wife has a 2002 BMW 320i and I also own a 1980 VC HDT Commodore, with a 355 stroker, thus my username, which I also use on 2 Brock Commodore forum.
Just thought I would sign up here to read more info on my car and other models and will post when I think I can add value.
Look forward to reading the posts on here.

Cheers,
Harry

Hi Harry,

Welcome along to OzLib. What an awesome time to buy a B4 - the prices for good examples are amazing (and heartbreaking) at the moment.

Enjoy the car in good health mate.

Chuck up some pics of the VC if you can - I've a soft spot for VC's and VL's, don't ask me why!

Cheers,
Nik

Thanks for the warm welome.smile

Actually picked up the car this morning from the dealer, so it's now home.big_smile

It's my first Subaru and definately first turbo. I am so new to this, that when I got home and turned the engine off, it was still running. I pulled the key out and thinking, oh no, WTF..eventually after 20 seconds or so, it turned off. I gather this is normal for a turbo, but is it safe to lock the car and walk off, during this phase? Sorry for the newbie question, but could't find anything in the owners manual.

Nik,

Yeah, the price I paid for the B4 was good IMO, looking at a few other examples that were around. Still had to screw the dealer down a further $3K, before I was happy to take the car..tongue It's only done 69,000kays.

I'll post up a few pics of my VC in this thread later today.cool

Cheers,
Harry

lol Thanks mate. The dealer mentioned the turbo timer, when he had to wait to restart the car, but neglected to mention the cooling down period where the engine still runs.roll
I'm used to the good old V8's that you can turn off and on in seconds..good for quick get aways..yikes

Harry

If you ever get annoyed at the turbo timer you can remove it you dont really need it, just dont thrash the car right before turning it off.

Hi,

If you get a really annoying cop they can do you for leaving a vehicle running and unattended, but it's pretty rare. If you lock the car, a would be thief is required to break in, find the TT and keep pressing the time up while they make their getaway.

As mentioned, turbo timers are more for your oldschool turbo cars, newer turbo cars don't really need them, unless you like to redline down your driveway.

Nik

Thanks again everyone for the info. Just one more question. Does the B4 come standard with a Turbo Timer? I can't see anything that is not factory in the car, but haven't checked under the bonnet, as I wouldn't know what to look for anyway.lol
I don't plan on thrashing the car anyway. I have already lost my licence one, in the Brock Commodore and don't plan a repeat performance, especially at my responsible age..er..40!!

Here are a few pics of my pride and joy (not the B4.haven' taken pics of it yet)

Fark me that VC is HOT!!!

Sorry all, but I am an original tried and true Holden fan.

Although I have to say, the wheels don't do it for me..
You should whack on a set of 16" pro-dragways;)

I don't think dragways would suit the VC, plus I have 330mm brake rotors, so wheels need to be minimum 17", but the ones on the car are 19's. They've been on the car for 3 years now, and it's part of my cars character now.wink

Thanks for the comment though.

Harry

Welcome to the forums, nice looking B4.  They look better in the dark colours in my opinion. And having the turbo timer is a good idea, i would'nt run a turbo car without one.
