First Subie

  Top of Page

Hey guys, I got my MY05 Lib in August. I am a P plater but looking for advice on mods that cant be seen if the police get you to lift the hood. I ran into one guy who mentioned NGK spark plugs, suspension and breaks as a first.

I dont really wanna install a turbo on my car when I get my full licence as I cant afford to throw cash away for petrol.

I drive a Lib MY05 2.5i Safety Pack. Obsidian Black, Manual. 83000ks. Everything is stock except im putting those spark plugs in soonish.

I dont really understand how an engine works but sure would like to learn alot about it and get my car suited with some sweet mods while keeping it looking classy smile

Welcome Vizer, Obsidian black is the bestest colour from Subaru so nice choice there. I would be looking to change your panel filter to a K&N cotton one and look into some new exhaust bits. Such as a cat back system. As for the spark plugs, i would give that a pass. PITA to do and not necessary unless you are experiencing the plugs breaking down already?

Hi,

Wouldn't consider the plugs necessary unless you run into a spark issue. The brakes aren't flash, but they aren't that under braked compared to a turbo, some nice pads, better fluid will make for a decent upgrade - maybe some rotors if you're feeling the Xmas spirit.

Exhaust is definitely a nice place to start, the rumble is essential. A nice 2.25 system will work well on your car. You could go for a full system, but if you just want the nice noise, I'd just stick to a diff back exhaust - essentially the muffler.

Cheers,
Nik

I was told bendix was probs the best option for brake pads...agree?

Sorry to be a real novice here but what do you mean by rotors? In terms of fluid are you talking braking fluid, steering fluid, coolant?

Rotors = Brake discs

The man to ask about brakes is HiPSI, He has ongoing group buys with ozliberty and GTrydaz members. Personally i would go for EBC reds over the Bendix pads.

For brake questions ask the man: http://www.ozliberty.com/home/index.php … =3#p198986

EBC Reds are a little pricier than Bendix pads though... Like, 3x the price.

Don't tell me that was your 18th b'day present or something. tongue

As a daily, bendix should be fine.  I'm got them on atm with some DBA4000s and they have great grip.  As for other mods, just get the rumble, some nice rims and drop it alil and and your set mate.  But soon enough, you'll want to hear a whistle coming from the engine...... ^_-

Enjoy your ride.

Re: First Subie

i've 2 rear mufflers for sale smile
one quiet one, one louder (but probably still legal with a stock exhaust)
they both have 2.25 inch piping from the diff to the muffler, but they're made for a gen2
little bit of modification and you've got yourself some boxer rumble (unless the headers are EL instead of UEL, anyone know?)... tongue

also, welcome to ozliberty
