Finally Got My Car Back

  Top of Page

Well its been months but I've finally got my B4 back after a 2.5l transplant. The unfortunate thing is that I now have to run the engine in with only 0.5 bar boost and 3.5K rev limiter. It's F**ken killing me. Turbo just starts to spool and you have to back off.

Now all that's needed is around 1000-1500k's under its belt then back on the dyno for final tune and power run. Hoping for anything between 180-200awkw.

Pics updated in My Ride with mods also noted.

Do any of you guy's have a surefire run-in routine because currently engine management isn't allowing much engine loading?

Is it better to run engines in gently or give them just a slight push along? Opinions would be appreciated.:Dntknw:

Only 5 things left to do and then I'll be content.
FMIC
Slightly Larger Turbo (again Opinions sought for type)
CAI
Larger Front Brakes
PPG Helical 1-4 Gear set

Just so stoked I had to share.:clapping:

Nice! So you've had an STi 2.5T put in?

As for run in, most people I've talked to agree that you should just drive it the way you will when it's run in, although I expect that'll be quite difficult with a 3500rpm rev limit!

The guy's that did the work for me said to just putt around and that's why they've limited the boost, but I have also heard things to the contrary.:Dntknw:

Follow your mechanics way, as if something happens to the engine at least you can go back and say it was run in to his method.

Do you think they can use the diagnostics from the ECU to check on what revs and boost the engine has done?

Like a historical mapping of sorts?

I don't know enough about the ecu.
So I can't answer.
Ask the tuner

Is your mechanic TUNED here in Brissy, or someone else on the Coast?

Did you blow the pipe?

Assuming I still have my car next week I'm definately up for a quick run down the coast.

My guy's want the car for a few days after the run-in so I'll have to work in around that.

Engine including loom, STI processor, turbo, clutch, flywheel and sundries around $7K. This engine was so low K's you could have eaten off it. Exhaust ports totally clean, no carbon.

Labour is harder to workout because they did a lot of work building the engine and tuning. Depends what you are after. Just to replace the engine, loom and tune maybe $2-3K.

Did you get the later 6 Speed with the taller ratios and if you don't mind me asking how much for the conversion. Asking because I'd like a 6 speed or a PPG helical 1-4 upgrade. Leaning toward the PPG's.

Re: Finally Got My Car Back

You guys, in fact everyone should do this ( I've had mine ready for a year but its still in the shed) get a oil pressure switch (about 7lb) & tap it into your header tank with a warning light, the second your radiator drops below 7psi the light will come on.
I cooked mine due to the top tank hose breaking off in the dunes, stupid temp guage spikes for a second then reads air temp so you have no idea what's happening till it's too late.
It may be a bit annoying till the pressure builds up but it'll save your motor if another hose goes.:victory:

Thanks for the tip. I might see if I can get my mechanics to splice it into engine warning light so that it comes up on the dash.
