Filling Up A Turbo Car

  Top of Page

As some will know by my intro thread last week, I bought a 2003 B4. My first Subaru and definately first turbo, after many years of V8's and 6's..big_smile

Anyway, almost a week on, and loving the car. Had to fill up the car a couple of days ago, and wondered how others deal with the turbo timer, running the car, when you just want to start filling up..hmm Lucky the servo wasn't busy, because then when I got back in the car, and punched in my Brant system code, the car wouldn't kick over, until about 40 seconds later. What a pain in the arse. Is this what owning a Subaru turbo is all about..lol

Also had a funny incident, when the Mrs and I went somewhere and when I got back in the car, hit the code, but accidently hit one number twice, so had to turn the alarm back on and off, and on and off a few times, before it would let me do the code properly.
It must be old age.

Cheers,
Harry

Remove the non standard turbo timer, suby turbos are water cooled and set up so they thermo siphon after shut off to cool them. Timer is not required.
Get rid of the brant alarm, best mod i have ever done to a car ever. While its working it can be bearable but once it starts playing up its a nightmare. Have a search around here, there is a thread that tells you how to disable some of the more annoying features, then remove it, and burn it, and jump on the remains and then pee on what's left and the car will thank you for it.

Is that for all turbo Subaru's, and does that apply to my 97 Gen II.

Not old age mate, just that the Brandt sucks.  Mine sh1t itself awhile back so i've turned off the keypad altogether.  Waiting for my rudd payment to get the it removed and install aftermarket.  Then will proceed as thatsgoodsquishy suggested.

Okay, so the consensus is the TT is not needed and can be pissed off and the Brandt alarm is a pain in the arse too. At the moment the Brandt is working fine, but will get rid of the TT. Lucky my mechanic (old school friend) is a master Subaru tuner, so will get him to sort it out for me..big_smile

Cheers,
Harry

i just left it in place, cant hurt to make it look like the brant is still there. Will confuse any crook who decides to have a crack

Does the brandt need to be disconnected by Subaru, or can any electrically minded person do this, for example a car alarm installer?

Good idea to leave the keypad in though, as you say, to not have a gaping hole, but more importantly as another deterrent.
