F1 Rules

  Top of Page

Out of all the new rules they have brought in for season 2009 what were they thinking when they decided that the Driver championship was going to be decided but race wins over the points.

I mean isn't the best been the best overall not just the best in 10 races for example.

I understand that they think this will cause drivers and teams to be more aggressive to win every race but i think it will have a negative affect on some of the best driving and overtaking that normal you would see from a good car being within the back markers.

I think this because if i was a driver that was in the list of potentials for the championship and for some reason found myself in 13th position at the start of the race and it was race number 1 of 4 for the engine what would you do? Push the engine to its limit to get potentially 3rd or 2nd or retire (or take it easy) and have a new engine to attempt to win the next race.

What does every one else think?

But surely if there were 3 drivers who won 3 races each then your placings in the other races would make it an incentive to get further up the list.........still sucks though but might make the last few laps pretty interesting.

Not happening this year now, could have been interesting though.
But you can't beat having the championship decided in the last corner of the year.

Would be much more fun to watch..

But realistically and (insert the word I can't think of at the moment) I don't think it would be a good idea. Keep it the way it is.

FFS,,,,,,,,they changed the rules a few years back to reward  the most consistant driver of the year the winner , not just a bloke who won a hand full of races and a lot of other motor sports took the same path like V8 supercars and i think moto gp did the same , a gold medal tally is ridiculous.

That proposed system is almost as counter-intuitive as the new V8 Qualifying = Race start rule.

As much as you'd have to applaud a guy than can win lots of races. A more deserving winner would be the guy than wins once, and podiums the rest, As opposed to someone who wins thrice and DNF's the rest.

I'm sure there's more to it than that.... but still.

On another note though...... night race should prove interesting!

However with the telecast starting at midday, I'm quite sure many of us will be well and truly asleep on the couch come race time.

Ahhh beer. You gotta love it.
