Extreme Fuel Consumption MY06 2.0R - Help

  Top of Page

<HR style="COLOR: #181b16" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Hi, I bought a new MY06 2.0R Wagon earlier this year. It was an easy choice based on the fact that we were trading our much loved 1990 Liberty Wagon.

All was going well until my 5000km service. Post this service the fuel consumption has dramatically increased, from 9L per 100km to in excess of 11L per 100kms.

The Subaru dealership where I bought the car are giving me the extreme run around, fundamentally claiming that I am wrong, countering my claim with objections such as,

1. I am not using the right premium fuel
2. That I am not running the correct tyre pressure
3. The trip computer is faulty
4. I am driving the car too hard
5. I am not recording the mileage and fuel correctly

I feel I am now in a fight to prove the credibility of my claim against Subaru and institute a warranty issue.

Any advice to assist this sorry situation would be appreciated.

P.s The trip computer displays instantaneous consumption,
* Under light acceleration the consumption is reported as 50L/100km.
* At 60kmph on a flat road, consumption varies from 6L/100km to as much as 15L/100km.
* There is no typical evidence of a rich fuel mixture, i.e blackened rear bumber etc.
ricz,

Welcome to the forums.

Just looking at your concerns, I noticed something small that might make a big difference.

1st thing: The trip computer on the Libertys do not display "Litres per 100klms". They display 'Kilometres per Litre". So as an indication, 8 km/Litre equates to about 12.5 Litres per 100klms. Therefore, the higher the number, the less fuel you are using...

2nd thing: Usually, the first 10-20,000klms is fairly thirsty as the components have more friction trying to bed in place. Therefore, it's not unusual finding that the car is a little more thirsty than normal.

3rd thing: As for their claims... I think they're utter rubbish. If in reality your consumption has actuallly increased detrimentally, then take it up with another dealership who are willing to help you or taken it up with Subaru Australia

How are you measuring your fuel consumption? How I measure it is to fill up a FULL tank and then reset the trip meter to ZERO. Then drive until the light comes on, then fill up and calculate your consumption.
Good luck!

I would have thought this would be the dealers problem and that if they feel its faulty they should look at fixing/replacing it before accusing you of anything else
