exhaust mods for 3.0r spec b

  Top of Page

Hi there all! I've recently stepped into an 05 lib 3.0 spec b man, and want to get some note out of it. I've spoken to heaps of guys including sti at docklands and have had mixed responses. Some saying mods are pointless, others that theres potential to make huge gains! I dropped the rear muffs and there was not much volume gain, the centre however unleashed heaps of volume. the suggestion has been made to remove this muffler and weld in straight pipe or a hotdog instead.has anyone removed the centre muffler? has anyone done anything more adventurous than this? I'd love to hear bout the results!

I recently had a 3.0R go tearing past me in the M2 tunnel and I have to admit, I was looking around for a porsche. It was one of the very exhaust tones I have ever heard.
I'm not really sure what was done to it exactly - it did appear to have the dual pipe STi spec Lib's mufflers, but they may have been some other brand - but its most certainly possible to make the flat 6 sound magnificent. Please do, and please send me sound clips big_smilebig_smilebig_smile

well one of the better guys I've spoken to has told me to start before the last cat where the pipes are still about 2.25inches. on the stock system they reduce here to one pipe that goes through the centre muffler before splitting back at the rears..He recommends that for maximum gains I fit two high flow cats and continue the pipes seperately all the way to the rear( ie a proper twin system) I'm keen as mustard but sti scared me off by saying any loss of back pressure will result in power going backwards.. to the contrary the exhaust guy says thats crap and that I'm sure to pick up heaps but it'll be loud?!? theres also the warranty concern..ie will it be void?

Personally I'd always expected that a full split exhaust system would be better, however I've seen posts by people that tried it, and then it to have a X-over section about halfway back, so you may want to look in to that before you jump straight in to the full split system.
