end of my tether

  Top of Page

hey guys, now i know that most of you are aware of the issues that i have been having with my car for many many many months now, and im getting to the end of what i can tolerate.

A quick update to explain my situation, 18 weeks worth of unscheduled maintenance the car is now up to, with the issue still not being resolved.

i have submitted two letters to subaru australia and have dealt with two of the customer service consultants down in sydney, and have had Jim McCabe himself (regional state service manager ) fixing my car...

i have suggested to subaru that there be some form of compensation for the **** i have had to go through in putting up with this car over the last 18 months, and questioned Jim in relation to what Subaru are likely to do to help me out.

I have never asked for too much, i mean other than getting my car fixed, i suggested to them that they give me $25k for my car (5,500 more than the trade quote) and give me a good price in the purchase of the new car (my08gt-b)

Jim told me that subaru dont usually "compensate" any issues no matter what the circumstances, but it was out of his hands as he was only the "service manager" and his only obligation was to fix it. which is not getting done, due to the constant returning of the car with my unsatisfied self approaching the counter.

Ive just got off the phone to Subaru Australia this morning, and after speaking to Jade down in Sydney, im told that Subaru arent going to come to the party. Not only not give me that little bit of help to get rid of mine and spend another 65k upstairs, but they arent going to do a damn thing.

Basically im just after some advice, im out of ideas as to where i can take it, and who i can speak to. The car is booked in again to get fixed this week, and ive no doubt that when i pick it up. it will still not be fixed.

ive written letters, spoken to high positioned people, made phonecalls, and im honestly at the end of what i can put up with, without snapping and opening up some unstable cans of whoop ass. i just dont know where to go from here..

am i asking something unreasonable, am i going about it the wrong way, am i speaking to the wrong people, i am just over it guys, and its really starting to tarnish my love for the car, and the badge that it represents.

sorry for the long post.

You have one of the few lemons that any car company produces today.
My advice is pay one of the blokes that hang around the Mall in Ipswich a carton and while you go down to Easy-Street for a few drinks, your car will mysteriously vanish and be found out the back of Leichhardt as a burnt out shell.
After the phone call you receive from the Police at 5.30 am saying that you car has been found, you quickly rush out to the scene in a cab only to fall to your knees sobbing at the site of your most prised possession, now a charred shell.

In all honesty Kurt, you might have to actually take it to someone who knows something about Subaru's. God knows Subaru knows very little about about their cars, especially the service centers. maybe give Al a call and see if he can help diagnose the issues. It might cost you a couple hundred but then you can take the car back with a diagnosis, or better still get him to sort it. Drop the car off and take Charlz down to Nossa for lunch.

BTW what is this Sydney nonsense?

nothing you can do
lemons are lemons and ALL car delaerships deal with this by jus muckin you around till either your warranty runs out or till you get sick of it. they win 9 times out of 10. sorry mate its the worst i know. jus keep fighting them. if not then seriously consider fatcats option.... just dont post about it on here :ninja:

Just threaten to go to the ombadsman (if that's how you spell it) It works with insurance company's when you want your money.

I am sure A Current Afair and Today Tonight would love this story and I am sure you would probably get paid for it as well!

Ombudsman wouldnt help as Subaru are trying to fix it and they havent said they wont so that wont work.

I would be making phone calls!

Aren't there lemon laws in Australia for this reason?
As above, threaten to take it up with the ombudsman and go to the panic merchants (Today Tonight and ACA). As sad as it is, often you don't get any action until you threaten and jump up and down.

As nice as Subaru's are, do you really WANT to give them more of your money after this? You could always write them another letter telling them you were about to put down a deposit for an MY08 GT, but instead you'll be buying something that works?

Re: end of my tether

hey guys, thanks for the advice, weather it be legal or not..

basically ive spoken to the department of fair trading, and am in the process of submitting a complaint against then, weather or not that does something, one can only wait.

i realise that its somewhat of a common problem, however i figured that if i was offering to buy more, spend more etc etc, then they would help me out. i would happily sell it, within a heart beat, however i was just trying to make the point thru subaru. especially for it to have gone as far as it has and still very little glory.

ive been patient with them, and have not lost my temper or spoken disrespectfully to them. however the current affair idea is seeming the smartest option. like i said, im out of ideas as to where it can go from here, and im not willing to just take it on the chin, and move on.. not good enough.

and at the end of the day, i dont think i have asked for that much... just a lil help getting rid of it, will it really make a dent in thier bank balance, or will it be cheaper to continue fixing my car under warrenty..

i tried to get confirmation this morning that subaru would suddnely not find a loop hole to get out of repairing the car when the warranty expires, however my answer was very vague, and unclear... i said i wanted in writing that this issue will be fixed until i am satisfied with the outcome... i was told that cause it is already on my account, pre warranty expiry that it would not be an issue.. again i asked for that in writing..

apparently there is no one higher than the girl i spoke to this morning, and basically she expected me to leave it at that.. i told her again, not good enough, and that i will be taking this further, by whatever means it took..

in addition i made it clear to her, that i was not taking it out on her, cause to me, she was trying to help.. well it appeared that way, so i apologised if i came across as rude to her, however i didnt appreicate spending that much on a car, for it to not work, for over half its life..

Go to a printer (the type that makes stick on ones) have huge THIS CAR IS A LEMON ones made up, place on either side of the car & rear window, put a list of your problems on a sheet of paper in the window & park it over the road from them at their busiest time IE Sat morning & whatever late trading day they have.........................sit with the car & watch them jump. :***:
You will possibly get on the news too, that should really fire them up as they have a pretty good name & they won't want it tarnished.

Hey mate,

I go to OFT (Fair Trading) everyday, will be glad to help you out if you need documents or letters lodged regarding your complaint, (the line can be huge some days and I get priviliges) just mail them to my work and they'll be done that day.

Also what dealership did you buy it off, I'm pretty sure I know which one.....*coff* Mt Gravatt *coff*. If I'm correct than let me know, I've got contacts over there, soon try and get some deal organised. I would advise getting a second hand MY07-08 GT Spec.B or similar at wholesale price, the dealership can organise that for you, will work out at about $10k - $15k off. If they are unhelpful I can hook you up with some numbers of Subaru used wholesalers, although this will result in you doing the footwork and not the f**kwits in question.

Any how drop me a bell if you're interested in some help.

Re: end of my tether

ha ha ok for those of you that dont know... ill make it as quick as possible the issues ive had.
*head shield tack welds break exhaust makes funky noise.---- fixed by myself at work

*consumption of approx 6 headlight/fog light globes per month.... 6 months after buying the car-- told to take it to an auto electrician to get it fixed

*blowing stupid amounts of black smoke, ----- didnt even jack the car up, was blamed on a/m exhaust... again own investigation fixed this.

*airbag light issues... airbag light would not stop coming on.--- was told not to store the imaginary objects i had in my car, under my seat, and they were moved into my boot!!

*engine decides to stop working...--- half way up cunninghams gap and thats about as far as i got. went through over 2 lts of oil in a week. new short motor fitted and i eventually get it back.

*car continuously running rough, consuming stupid amounts of fuel---- spark plugs replaced that were missed on the new engine replacement, and the 100k service, and the 112500 km service... "oh sorry"

*repeated problem, still running unwell---- apparently nothing wrong with it

*clutch/gearbox making funky noises--- clutch replaced, and 1st 2nd and 3rd synrcos.

*returned with a noise resembling a washing machine--- shim at rear of gearbox apparently out of tolerance... replaced...

*surging, very doughy performance-- exhaust gasket manifold replaced, throttle body removed and cleaned, deeper upper engine clean carried out

*still not healthy---- injectors removed and cleaned and replaced

*STILL not running well.. ---- knock sensor removed, inspected and a shim placed inside to "deafen" the engine. done by subarus state regional service manager

*STILL not playing the game... still has no power, still has a surging, or hesitation issue, chews through ALOT of fuel ( w/bris to goldy just under half a tank)
and this is where im up to now... the car is being dropped off on friday, and it will be left with them for 3 weeks while im away..

sorry for the length, i did try to break it down.. missed a few small things out, but nothing of great significance...
cheers

Lol at the state service guy "deafening" the knock sensor. Must have owned an RS back in the day.

Sounds like Subaru has got some 'splainin to do on this one.

The $40k you are considering spending on a car upgrade would go a long way to(actually well past) a TT H6, 6MT, Brembos, Motec, Ohlins etc.
We'd give you better service and it would be more reliable and economical too. smile

$600 you can get the car covered in a vinyl product that will not damage the paint and you can get whatever you want printed on it as long as you have copyright....take a photo of a lemon and get it printed in vinyl on your car!!:beach:
