Ebay and PayPal

  Top of Page

I don't know how many people here use Ebay, but from June 17, the only way you will be able to pay for things is through PayPal (or by paying on pick up). No bank deposits anymore!

I was a bit annoyed about that, as I've never used PayPal. It says it's free to send money though. But what does that mean for sellers, because doesn't it cost heaps to use it for them? What are people's experiences with PayPal?

You can use paypal with a bank card, which is what i do, it does take about 2-3 days for the payment to clear tho, but doesnt cost anything to use.

It does cost you as a seller/reciever not sure on how much 1-3% surcharge maybe??? Dunno someone set me straight on that.

I just went over a few records/emails and it cost someone I paid $500, $7.50 in fees. Which is about 1.5% surcharge.

Re: Ebay and PayPal

this one time i bought something with paypal, and the item got damaged in transit so the seller refunded me the $100 back to me and it only cost me like 50c or something to put it back in my bank account.

but i think it is also stupid that they are getting rid of bank deposit. if it wasn't secure the banks wouldn't have it available to us!

cheers nic

Whats not to say that the seller emails you their bank details and pay for it that way???? Come on people. Think outside the square.

As for paypal, its more an insurance thing for the buyer. If you pay for something through paypal and don't recieve it your covered. If you pay via bank deposit, all you can do is notify ebay and the police. Good luck with getting anything out of them.:big_boss:

I think you will find that Paypal is owned by Ebay - and this will mean that Ebay will make more money if people have to use Paypal. :secret:

Having said that it is secure, convenient and you are covered to an extent - personally I haven't had a problem with the fees, its a cost of using the service.

Spot on.

You dont have to do everything through ebay.

They just wont give you the option of showing your bank details in the checkout anymore.

Easily side stepped.
