That sucks!

Is it just more or does anyone else not understand  how that bit of road in the first pics caused that much damage?

What am I not seeing here??? What actually happened?

looks like the rim caught the side as it slipped off, sucks. but that'll teach you to put chromies on a lib big_smile

You pop the question at home?

P.s i heared from a lil bridy that chrome rims cant be fixed, somthing to do with the metal being too hard after the chroming proccess. could be wrong, but somthing to think about big_smile (Shadow chrome, or Black FTW big_smile)

i think its just the angle of the picture that doesnt show the decievingly devestating potential of the piece of road.

you mustve been cutting it pretty enthusiastically to do that to the back rim :mda:

Damn roads, dunno about other states but they are especially bad in certain places in the adelaide hills. There will be a pot hole or rough patch for weeks, then it will get a "quick fix", in other words just dump a heap of bituman in it so it goes from being concave to convex, then a few weeks later back to concave then after rain back to the pothole. Pretty annoying but it sure keeps you on your toes.
Bad luck about the rim by the way.

I actually laughed out aloud at that comment.

Sorry.

With chrome wheels, repairing them wouldn't be worthwhile...replacement I'd assume would be cheapest. Perhaps even try contacting tempe tyres/ozzy tyres (in sydney) and have a replacement shipped out to you? Could be cheaper?

Can't be more than $200-$300 a wheel...

And try not to run around on one wheel that's different to the others. If you still have your originals, throw them all back on. That way, you'll prevent further damage to differentials.

Re: dumb ass.....

the wheel cost be 370 ish i think... and ive only looked at repair as an option, but being ready to cough up for the total cost.. thats a today job..

im putting the other sparey on the back today.. so im running two and two, that should be ok shouldnt it?

and paul, no i havent end of the week... and piss off cause i know your jealous :beee:  ha ha

and sorry bout the pics, the first one doesnt really show the depth.. would at least have to be 4, maybe 5 inches off the gravel... damn road...

atleast i wasnt the only one. i hit a pot hole and took a chunk out of the sidewall and bashed in the side of the rim. looks like gutter rash, but i know i didnt hit anything else.

i had a smash in my ford a while ago, and dinted my rim pretty badly, $180, fully repaired, repainted and balanced. looked better than the other 3. in melbourne, gimme a pm if u want details

You're a dumb ass if you chuck it away. I reckon thats an easy fix because its on the inside of the rim. Call the guys at Albion wheel repairs, $150-200 for sure.

Re: dumb ass.....

some one told me that repairing chrome rims could be dangerous, as the chroming prosses heats the metal and makes it hard/fragile. and repairing it could result in cracking/shattering apon hitting nother large pot hole.

Chroming is dangerous full stop!

Sooop, what you are saying is probably true, but his wheels are only chromed on the outside face of the rim. The inside part of the rim that's damaged appears to be regular alloy. I guess it'd all depend on whether the the chromed part of the rim is damaged.

I guess we'll all have to wait on the verdit from the wheel surgeon!

Re: dumb ass.....

just a quick update for you all...

decided to go the "safer" option and just fork out for a new wheel.. i was getting mixed opinions of what to do and weather it was do able..

so i bit the bullet and forked out the mulah..

jarrod gave me the details of a mob down the goldy, that have quoted me a half decent price for repair, so i will go see them, and just have myself a 5th spare.

ol mate said he can do it in a day, which is better than the 4 week turn around time told by others.. so i will take it down to him, catch up with jarrod, which he doesnt know about yet, and pick it up later on.. ha ha

and just leave it covered up in the boot, for when i need it..

turns out, that the front wheel copped some damge too, not as severe, but bad enough... its still ok, just a few deep scrathes.. and a very very very slight ding...

all in all.... all is good smile

Get that other rim balanced and checked out too.

You'll feel it whilst doing higher speeds.

5th Wheel is a great idea.

Glad its worked out.

Now: Is there any way of claiming compensation for your damages incurred because of the poor roads? Anyone you can write to? Local council? State government?

yeah i like the way your thinking.. will certainly look into how i can manipulate it, and throw in the innocent furry critter card..

i got the wheel balanced, and i can still very very slightly feel it.. nothing too dramatic.. so i will just wait till i go down and see what he says

Nope..  dangerous driving..  AFAIK you ain't allowed to swerve for the fluffy cuddlies...  the law says 'drive on through'...  at least that's the case in NZ and UK horrible as it sounds...
