DIY: Key/Remote Battery Change.

  Top of Page

Ok, this has got to be one of the most simplest thing we all should be able to do.

Swapping out the battery on your car key remote central locking key is done in a few simple steps.

Tools you will need is a tiny philips screwdriver & and flat head screwdriver and the battery, two batteries if your going to change both your key and the spare. (Good idea to do both).

The batter you will need is a CR1620 this can be found at a watch shop or Tandy (where I got it from). Watch places will charge you approx $10 but if you buy it from Tandy it's on $3 and it's an energizer one, not some crappy taiwanese made.

You could of cause use Subaru's code (Part number 57433AE000) as a replacement.

So, find the screw on the key and remove it, carefull you don't lose it, now pry the key pad open, use your finger nail or a small flat head screwdriver. Does not need a lot of force, so go easy.

Once opened, use your flat head screw driver again and pop out the old battery - now remembering which way the battery was installed as you'll add the new battery in the same way.

Now pop the new battery in and close up the keypad and replace the screw and your done.

Test it and it should be good for at least 4 yrs..

The spare key off mine had a lost screw as well, but I found one from a portable HDD case that worked ok.

I have a spare - if you need it I can post it out otherwise pop in to one of those watch repaires they may have one.
