DIY Gen3: Clear Side Indicator/Repeater Upgrade

  Top of Page

Hi Guys,
A few of you have mentioned about doing this.  I though I'd put together a summary article on how it's done.

Firsly you need to get a set from somewhere.  These are the set that I bought from ebay for $45 inc postage:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll … 0074883743

Mickey got his from a bugeye wreck for $30.

One of the other blokes on here (can't remember handle) got his from autobarn for $30.

Tools:
- None

This is what the package arrived like.  There were no instructions but I figured it out and am writing this instead:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l236/DjbLibHeritage/My%20Liberty/Mods/Side%20Repeater/Photo_0003.jpg

The before shot.  Note Sherlock the faithful helper and purveyor of all things good acting a Site Foreman (as he aslways does when I'm fiddling with stuff around the house).  He just has to give the "Sherlock patented seal (read as sniff) of approval".
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l236/DjbLibHeritage/My%20Liberty/Mods/Side%20Repeater/Photo_0006.jpg

Step 1 - Push the repeater forwards.  This should free up the rear end and you should be able to pop it out.  There is no need for a screwdriver here as you'd more than likely scratch the paintwork (like I might have done).
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l236/DjbLibHeritage/My%20Liberty/Mods/Side%20Repeater/Photo_0008.jpg

Step 2 - Remove the wire plug from the indicator.  There is a little clip at the base of the plug that needs to be pushed in first.

Step 3 - Remove the centre-piece from the old indicator (you'll need this) and then put the new (clear) amber globes in that and then insert the lot into the new lense cover and re-attach the plug.  It should look like this:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l236/DjbLibHeritage/My%20Liberty/Mods/Side%20Repeater/Photo_0009.jpg

Step 4 - Insert the new clear indicator assembly at the front of the hole and then slide backwards.  This might be a tight fit but it does go in.  It should look like this:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l236/DjbLibHeritage/My%20Liberty/Mods/Side%20Repeater/Photo_0010.jpg

After shot:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l236/DjbLibHeritage/My%20Liberty/Mods/Side%20Repeater/Photo_0011.jpg

Hope that helps all contemplating this upgrade.

2 days after I bought my repeaters, I saw another set on ebay for like $28.  I was so dark but ohh well no point crying over spilt milk.

Cheers
Darryl

Great Walk thru.  Something I have planned for my B4.

Now if only I could find front headlights without the black sections I'd be stoked. smile

Have a close look at the lens cover, it has an arrow pointing in the direction you need to push the blinger in order to pop it off.

I haven't found a set that was real tight. I think they're all like that.

I'm pretty sure Kenan has clear repeaters on his gen2, did it himself from memory.

Wouldn't happen to have the seller name handy or even a link?
I've been on the hunt for a while and have come up with zip.

Aren't you gen 3 boss?  Heritage?  If so, get in to Repco and order the Forester ones..  they are even a bit shinier/sparklier than Subaru's..
Nope, Gen 2. Have been searching for a while and come up with abso-lutely nothing for Gen 2's, Gen 3's seem easy to come by.

Oh well, I'll just keep an eye on eBay etc and get a pair if/when they come up. no biggy.

Yeah mine too. I just did them with a bit of struggle to get the left and right side off but when I went to put the right side on it was fine but then i did the left side and it can be taken out by using your pinkie. it moves in all directions. Any suggestions on how i can make it a bit tighter?

Any would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

There is a 'spring' type set-up at one end clearly visible in the above pic..  move this outwards (carefully!) just a little is enough so it loads up tension when you fit it..  some sort of edge surround wouldve be nice..

EDIT:  KROME DOMES FTW!!!!
OK ill try that but... Plastic has a memory and once it has been moved it will go back to where it originally was. Ill try it anyway.

P.S Sorry to get all technical.:suicide_f
