Dirty rims

  Top of Page

I'm so ashamed, lol I've been neglecting my Lib lately (as in, not washing it very often). Unfortunately it's had a few things happen to it this year; 1. I hit a parked car, 2. someone crashed into the back of me (which resulted in me getting a new rear bumper), 3. for the final straw my partner backed into it and took paint off the front! Still have to get most of it fixed, I did get my new rear bumper though.

So I wasn't taking much pride in my car, I'm sorry to say, but yesterday I finally washed and cleaned it. Only to discover, my rims are so filthy that all the dirt didn't come off with just car wash and water. sad I don't know what to clean them with, any suggestions? They have a stainless steel lip, which is what the dirt won't come off of. I've always been too afraid to clean my rims with chemicals for fear of sometihng bad happening.

industrial fallout. Your pads are made from metal and carbon, nothing some meguiars magic can't fix though. Just use the wheel cleaner in a small patch first to test how it will react with your rim.

Turps will do the job. It also gets those nasty tar spot off the paint as well smile
Just use a soft, lindt free cloth and will work like a charm.

Not effect on the paintwork by doing that? I have some tar marks on my white lib I cant get off...

Oh yeah and shower power (no joke) made my chrome rims on my old lib come up pretty well, just I wouldnt suggest leaving it on too long.

Yea there was no effect to the paintwork at all - except that it made it clean!

Dont see how that is relavent. But that sucks mate.
Interesting that it took you 2 hrs to change a taillight. Should be a 15mins job, max??

like MRNLUKE i use about a lid full of kero in a bucket of water when cleaning my car, it cleans of the hard to get off crap plus adds a little shine and doesnt ruin the paint work

I use Castrol Wonderclean, just dilute the hell out of it.
May be alittle hard to get.
Removes baked on brake dust, but you will need to scrub a bit with a brush.

Re: Dirty rims

I would be VERY careful using turps/kero...... The reason it "works so well" is that it is taking a layer of clear coat off the top of the paint and thus leaving a nice clean and shiney surface. But do this a few times and you clear coat becomes thin and then next time a bird poops on your car...... straight to the paint and its there for good. I would suggest using clear coat safe car wash (wash and wax is ok) and as for the rims, if it is indeed stainless steel... then go get some stainless steel cleaner. As this does as its name suggests.
