"D" plates

  Top of Page

i was reading an editorial in the local newspaper today about "naming and shaming" in regards to young offenders. the article was along the lines of burglary and assault.

but it got me thinking. what if there was a "Naming and shaming" sort system for people or continually flout the traffic laws? I.E speeding, racing and just generally driving like an nob.

what if say after you 3rd warning, you received a "D" plate (as in Dangerous), that you MUST display, as if it were a "L" or "P" plate.

i think that would deter allot of people from driving like idiots. obviously there would have to be allot more to it, but what do you think of the general idea?

all opinions are welcome.

They'd do what many L and P platers do and hide it behind dark tinting, conceal it behind number plates or just not wear it at all. And they won't get caught for it for a very long time.

There should be no D-plate. Just an "S" for "swift kick in the ass" IMO.

Suprauc,, I normally wouldn't jump into this type of thread but its late and i'm bored sh*tless watching Celine Dion and Elvis singing together.

So mate here it is. Thats never going to happen or work.
My reasoning is that for people to get to the stage where they earn a "D" plate, they've already lost their licence at least once, so they will be still on their "P" plates when they get their licence back for a period of at least 1 year anyway.

Fair enough.

How about instead of going on to there "P" plates?
as Blistiened said, they may just hide them, putting plates behind tinted glass is illegal, so is hiding them behind Number plates.
you can still see them, just, i think the police simply dont care.  but these plates being of the nature they are, would attract more attention than normal "L" or "P" plates. thus the police may come down harder, and why not? they come down harder on people who have been convicted of other crimes time and time again.

also my idea was that the "Shaming" part would be more influential.

this is just hypothetical B/S as i too am bored Sh1tless.

Celine dion huh? your a brave man....

How about instead of introducing yet another confusing "plate" scheme, if someone is that sh1t a driver, don't give them their f*cking licence back. Tell them to go buy a push bike.

i guess it's just shame tactics. if they don't display the plates and get done again they will lose the license and they will be off the street. i wouldn't surprised if that gets passed and we see it by the end of the year.

Once upon a time people after completing there sentance (in this case a suspension of licence) there were assumed a free man. So do you want people who have been in jail for 60 years for a crime come out and have to wear a t-shirt saying "Armed Robber".

What benifit does this little rant give you anyway. Just let the police and the government sort out the bad drivers. Concentrate on not being part of the problem yourself.

I dont think he was ranting, it was more of a discussion thread.

I agree with the general consensus that it will never happen but then again Victoria only has one P plate. As fatcat mentioned, they should be off the rd before that even happens. On the other hand, pedophiles get put on a public list so that parents are aware. If some "D" plater rocks up next to a old couple then they might just stay clear but you're alternative hoon might try to milk them on.

Either way my post makes no sense and i was going to delete it :comando:

Mate there's a bit of a difference between spending 60 years in jail becoming close friends with a guy called babba, and just not being able to drive for 3 months...

From what I've seen of people that have had their licence suspended (quite a few sadly) they are by no means reformed.

i think you will find there already is a system in place, it comes in the form of a honda badge. :yes2:

but seriously, is your hair grey? do you live in a caravan park? do you have the grandkids over once a fortnight? why are you concerning yourself with a topic like this? the cops already have enough fun pulling young people over as it is, why give them other avenues to target drivers? what if you have in your younger days been careless in watching your speedo, gotten booked and lost your license for a bit, you grow up and realise how stupidly you used to drive, do you really want a "d" badge on your car? thats like sticking a neon sign on the roof saying "PULL ME OVER FOR NO REASON! TARGET ME!"

The D plate won't work. You'll get f*cks who'll be proud of it and probably drive according to their plates. C'mon I see it every year at autsalon when oxygen theives proudly display 50 fines infront of their fully sik lancers.

It'll only "gee" these fks up.

Re: "D" plates

very interesting Points of view.

I just want to reinforce that no government, that i am aware of, have even thought this up yet. i just dreamt it up on tuesday.

i suppose you could only give it to people who have allready lost there licences for stupid behaviour. not someone who got unlucky doing 110 in a 100 zone.
for instance after you loose your licence for "Hoon" behaviour you MUST display a "D" plate for a period of 12 months.  yes there will be d1ckheads out there that will gloat about it. but there is a vast majority of 17- 25 yr old "P" plate drivers that would be put off stupid behavior.

i think it would save lives, more so than silly 1 passenger only laws...

but thats just me! cheers!!

Re: "D" plates

good idea..... just wouldn't work!!! Too hard to police and then you would get alot of un-wanted attention from the po po aswell.

Look i drove like an idiot when i had my p's. But i was in a car that pushed sh!t uphill to do over 110kph. I grew up and thought driving all the time like an idiot WILL make me a target and i will eventually get caught. People have to come to their own conclusion that they are doing the wrong thing and change. Wether thats because of an accident or getting booked etc, they are the only ones that can change their driving.

So i think that the "p" platers should be on a power to weight ratio limitation. Don't give a novice a car that can do 160 in a 60 zone...... unless pushed for minutes to get there.

My 2 cents

Driver training is fantastic for someone that is already a good, or at least willing to learn, driver. If you're a pain in the ass VL driving hoon, it'll just make them an even worse driver because then they'll think they're even MORE invincible...

My intention was that this be applied to every driver on the road.
and that it just be a mandatory thing once u lose ur license. whether or not u had your P's or not.
more as a punishment than anything, so that every other driver knows your a d1ckhead. the hoons will soon slow down when gramps pulls up beside and yells "Moron" every time.
they may surround themselfs with like minded people, but work colleagues and other associates most likely wont be of the same persuasion.

it my firm belief that Driver education should be taught in schools.
they teach sex ed, but thats useless if u die before your legally allowed to use the knowledge.
save lives by educating the kiddies in an environment they cannot escape from smile
