Cusco BCS - is it powdercoated?

  Top of Page

Purchased a Cusco Brake Cylinder Stopper and would like to paint it a different colour. However, I'm not sure what they paint it with - would it be powdercoated?

Anyone here got an idea or tried painting one?

it probably will be powdercoated.

Just give it a light rub with some 400 sandpaper then undercoat and top coat with some decent spray paint.

Cheers Mark - it was my guess too as the paint seems pretty tough.

So just a good scuff and then undercoat and top coat - remembering that you've painted your brakes etc, any particular paint you recommend?

I did ring Craig to see how much he would charge to strip and paint it - but when I said that it was a bit more than what I had hoped for he seemed to get the ****s lol...

Hey Chris, I use the auto paints that can be bought from any auto accessories outlet ie Autobarn, Supercheap.

They come in small (about $13) and large cans (about $18) and when done right is a very durable finish. I have used it many times. I used Killrust on my brakes and rotors and you could get a can of that but i prefer the other for those sorts of jobs.

So did I - I even had an anodisers lined up to re-anodise it a different colour. I was a bit surprised to see it was painted - I guess not all Cusco stuff is anodised, particularly lower arm/sway bars I guess.

Cheers for the info Craig  - looks like I'll be sanding and spraying.

Out of interest - do you think a paint stripper would remove powdercoating?

Are they alloy or steel? I'm interested to know.

Dont think so, but not necessary anyway.

No way.

To remove powdercoat it needs to be:

a) chemically stripped
b) returned to a kiln/"oven"

Both procedures can potentially "ruin" unlying metal.

The BCS or the anodisers?

The BCS is definately not alloy - its probably steel.
