Creative time, show me your flavour!

  Top of Page

Whilst the Beta Team's feedback is being applied to the RC2 I wanted to begin gettign your ideas on the actual appearance / creative of the new site. Now you have mentioned in the past that you like the 'dark side', but have you got any site that you frequent that we can get inspired by?

Please post up your favorite sites that you think we could learn from?

I am referring to design and creative. Nothing new there dude, its all outa the box.

nissansilvia.com is also moving to a cms format like the new ozlib site, oopps i don't think i was supposed to say that.

I am after design guys.

but why go all fancy with new functions and styles?
i would think its great as it is now.

do we have the people to run it all and keep a solid foundation? if not the forum will be too advanced and fall under.

keep it simple, build a forum with the grounds and info that can hold its own and encourage people to join and be a data centre. than a fancy pants place to talk.

Ozliberty has the software and forum style that is up thee with the best. However it lacks the information side that people are after. W get new members asking questions which get asked 1000's of times. people flame them and tell them to search, but sometimes the search is crap.

maybe focus on re organizing the current forum so its easier to find info and get your way around.

its just like running a store, you want the customers to come in, find what they want with ease and get out. if this is accomplished then they will keep on coming back.

its about quality not quantity

www.fordlaser.com i have always liked the layout of this. i used to be on the site24/7 and always found it easy to get around.

gripe: i did find it a little difficult to get around. but i spose everyone will get used to it in time.

erm, we can have this discussion elsewhere since its not relevant to the topic. But clearly you don't know how a forum works and stores information.  It can't be a data centre thats the problem, and the reason big boards (like nissansilivia.com) are moving to somethign that can hande it. You should of been on the Beta team to see how simple it is.

ooh.. sorry..

A majority of people access this site at work, e/g me.. A work safe scheme would be best, or the option to change themes for when at work,

alot of white, and less pics and dribble would keep it alot more accessible, but with the option to change it back to the original look when your back at home?

Hi,

If we are talking about work accessible being a priority - here is my second favourite (obviously outside of GTR and OL).

www.6speedonline.com

Very worksafe in terms of colour scheme.

As for the strategic partnerships (sponsors) - that is obviously at an accelerated rate due to the origins (USA) of the website.

Nik

Why make the fact that the new system is using Joomla (a free CMS) a secret.

Besides, it is publicly accessible.

Heres an example of the quick style chooser at ausubaru.com
Bottom left hand corner in a pop up menu, they even have a christmas theme!

I like the orange on grey, but in general I think ausubaru, RSLC and Liberty.asn etc are much easier to get around purely because they are white with colour writing etc. Ozliberty might be harder because of the whole darker outfit, but might have something to do with the writing being white?
Just an idea...

excel spreadsheet theme would be good for those at work.

i believe leave the existing theme on the beta site, just have the option to change to one of the standard "out of the box" themes, like a simple white background etc.

Yeah, very secretive approach Rick. Although when Rydaz was down I think the 'Joomla' site advice could have given it away.
