computer help

i got a family member to re-format my comp and now iv got Windows Nemesis 4 Titan Edition. problem is i now have no sound. can anyone help. iv tried evrything i could and played around with settings but nothing. only clue iv got is that windows media player says there is 'no sound device installed'. any help?

been into Device manager yet??? to uninstall the drivers for the sound??? if that doesn't help you can update them from the web... :Dntknw:

This is sort of like asking us to guess the length of the piece of string you are holding.

First things first, assuming that your soundcard is onboard - what motherboard do you have, and have you installed the sound drivers for it yet? Go to your motherboard manufacturers' website and download the drivers from there. Install them and see if you have sound after that.

If you don't know what motherboard you have... (apart from me giving the critical comments) tell me what CPU you have, and any other information you might be able to provide, so we can try to work backwards and figure out what soundcard you might possibly have.

but the thing is, it had sound before i formatted it. i wouldnt know crap about the comp. its about one year old from IBM. it used to have office 98 but then it got hit by viruses so i got a free re-format from family. i was told its something that this form of windows does and i have to fiddle with settings

If you just re-formatted the computer then you will need to install drivers and programs back. A fresh installation of windows will have nothing on it, and that includes drivers for the sound.

Tell me what model your IBM computer is. Give me specifics, let me know what you can find out labeled on the computer.

IBM are the biggest pricks to deal with too.. smile

just google search, sound card drivers + (your IBM model computer you have) someone will have it available for download..

or go to computer shop and get a new better sound card for $15 bucks with sound drivers included

its a pentium 4....above the serial number it has: M/T 8423 35 M

No need to call them. IBM have a download site, which you can use to download all your drivers, all in one go. It's actually an awesome system, you *should* be able to just download this program and it will tell you what you need, or should, download.

thanks for the help. yeh IBM are heaps crap. the first comp i got didnt even start because the motherboard was toasted so they sent me this one. wouldnt do it again, but i got it for mates rates
