Cheap Jap Crap.

  Top of Page

Bought a silicon Y pipe the other day. $105.

Fitted it to the IC and then spent 2 hours trying to get it to all fit back on. FORGET IT!!

The oem plastic one had a slight kink whereas this one was straight (was for the correct model) and it would line the turbo up with the IC sitting correctly.

After plenty of cursing i binned it and put the oem one back one.

You get what you pay for......

Off the AVO for a samco set now. Ill pay the massive difference just to make sure its a quality item that fits first time. GRRRRRR.

Don't be too hasty. Sometimes they need a trim here and there to fit.
Very common. On some cheap WRX ones you need to cut around 15mm at the turbo inlet end for the thing to fit. But when fitted they are fine.

i bought the cheap ebay ones mark, no issues... it was slightly larger than the oem one, so out came the stanley knife.

took me about 30mins to do it all. was surprised how much i had to cut.

it will always be difficult to fit, due to the fact that its larger diameter piping, so its harder to get the "kinks" right

and if you're not running lots of boost (dont know what you plan on running) they are fine. mine is coping 16-17psi and there arent any probs

I may have to have a look at yours then. Which seller did you get yours from?

I had to cut a bit to get it to resemble the oem one as it was too long, but the turbo side was the right length.

Problem solved.

Picked up an STI cast Y pipe for $50!!

All it needed was the 90 deg elbow from the Y pipe to the turbo which the crap silicon intake supplied readily.

OEM FTW!

Nothing like oem for fit.

STi Y pipe on in a few minutes after a trim up of the silicone elbow to size. big_smile
