So... story is that I got my Liberty on Friday 4 Jan and a week later on 11 Jan, another driver in a delivery van broadsided me... didn't check his mirror and jumped into my lane. We both stopped and exchanged details. He totally admitted fault and apologised profusely the whole time. Nice guy actually.
My car's a lease car (novated via Autopia). They told me to call CGU insurance. I spoke to a very arrogant young lady on the phone who insisted that she couldn't understand a word I was saying. I had tons of information on the other driver. But she only wanted to know the name and the phone number. I offered more information, but she said she didn't want it.
Fine... no problem. I then gave her the story of how it happened. Not sure if she noted it down or not. At the end of the call she told me that she would need to validate my story with the other driver. I told her that she would have no problems doing so since the other driver already admitted fault etc. Her response was "well, we'll see who's telling the truth". The comment caught me off guard, but I let it slide.
The call ended. A week later I received paperwork from CGU that I filled in and returned promptly. I drove the car to a panel beater that my Subaru dealer recommended. They only work on Subies and are really good. I then got called away to Perth on business and spent a week there. When I got back yesterday, I expected things to be well on the way with regards to repairs but I was shocked to find out that the car had been sitting with my dealer the whole time as CGU wasn't authorising repairs.
I called up CGU and spoke to the same girl as before. Her attitude towards me was no different than the first time. My attitude was different however...no more mister nice guy. I was more direct and demanded answers. She told me that they weren't able to authorise repairs till they'd spoken to the other driver. She told me the other driver had not been reachable at the number I had given. The exact words were "he's not picking up the phone".
So, I dialled the number myself and spoke to the other driver. He was very nice about the whole thing. He said no one had tried calling him and he was quite surprised himself that no one had been in touch for well over a week... almost two.
So, I called CGU back and asked to speak to the girl in question. She wasn't available, so I spoke to the person who answered the call. I explained the situation to her. She then put me on hold and went to talk to the other girl. When she got back on the phone, she offered me a hire car and said that the repairs were now authorised. However, I would have to pay my excess first and if deemed not to be at fault, I'd be refunded the money.
This whole situation is stressing me out to the max. CGU is treating me like I'm some sort of criminal or a liar and is being very shady with me. Why would they lie to me saying they've tried to contact the other driver and that he doesn't answer, when in reality the driver has been waiting for the call and says that no one's called.
Anyone else have similar dealings with CGU?
