Center console filling

  Top of Page

Hi guys

I replaced my standard cd player that came with my Libs when I got it (about 3 years ago now) and I've finally come to the conclusion that I need to fill the gap it left.

As we know, the standard cd player is a double din sized object - i replaced it with my deck from my old car which is just a single din.

Any suggestions as to what I could put there? I went to wreckers around to try find a filler compartment, and bought one for $45 but it ended up being too large for my one (he said it was from an 00-02 outback, I think it was from the early 00 model so may have been different).

I'd like to put a new deck in, one that would fill it entirely but I'm pretty limited to cash at the moment and am about to put a 2.5" cat back exhaust on next week.

All and any suggestions are appreciated!

They charged you $45 for a din pocket???!!!!?
Best option is to get a pocket that fits or a double din head unit.

Yeah it's a bit rough but no-where else I went had any part so at the time I thought it was a blessing!

If anyone around Perth has a pocket or even original head unit that they're replacing/got lying around, by all means give me a buzz.

There is a few decent looking Double Din's on eBay for $200-250. The Pioneer doesn't look too bad.

Or you could MCM it with a piece of aluminium, paint it black... stick an STI sticker on it rofl.

Other than that I dunno tongue I am quite pleased with the stock stereo, has a great sound and mine even has a Clarion stacker installed. I might get an FM thingy for an iPod to listen to digital tunes though.

Baaaahh worst advice!!

Cheap ebay knockoffs will not fix this problem. They will create more.

There are a few well-priced Pioneer units available at the moment. Google the AVH-P3250DVD for starters. If you want bluetooth as well the check the AVH-P3250BT model. There is a Clarion double din unit around that isn't a DVD unit (Not sure of the model numbers but Shiv had it in his old Liberty) which is a great unit.

If you want to go all out, you can get GPS, TV, DVD, rear view cameras, bluetooth for no less than $1500...

But I repeat, do not get the cheap ebay ones. I tried them once (knowing full-well that it could be rubbish), and it was.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Yeah I wouldnt mind getting the stock stereo back, I think it was more of an "I have this other stereo from my old car may as well chuck it in this car" thing when I first got my Liberty. Spewin about it now..

I'll keep looking but I dont really want to spend more than a few hundred dollars on fixing it up.

Just thought id throw in my 2cents.
Like others have said 1/ get a double din headunit 2/ get a single din draw (can buy these from alot of places autobarn, supercheap, car audio shops, websites, ebay etc).
Previous owner of my car seemed to have the same dilemma as you and they made up a blanking plate using a block of wood and stapling leather over the face of it. Looks pretty good and im sure it cost next to nothing. (pretty much the same suggestion as "tsg" mentioned just using different materials.
