Car broken into.

  Top of Page

I woke up wonderfully this morning with a bit of a cold and headache, only to walk down to where i parked my car in Pyrmont, to see cds and stuff thrown everywhere, the ignition ripped to bits and wires hanging out everywhich way.
Would've happened between 7pm and 8.30am...
Insurance isnt going to cover me because of my excess, so I'm faced with whatever whopper of a bill i'm going to get. Anyone have any ideas on how much? The car is not drivable at the moment, as I'll post up pics of what used to be the ignition.

Cops came, did the usual, even got forensics to fingerprint it but the idiots were wearing gloves. About the only smart thing they did, not realising the car has an immobiliser.. duh.

I even noticed the car was out of gear and turned the wheel slightly as though they were trying to get it rolling.

DONT PARK IN PYRMONT, bulwara rd is a hotspot apparently.

. End Rant.

$1200-$1400 to fix... make that a warning to everyone. This guy really did screw up the stuff, not just the ignition but the barrel, wiring + more, going to inspect it tomorrow.. Its almost as though he couldnt steal it so decided to do as much damage as he could in there =\

Didn't know that, thanks for the advice.

You live in that area??

I had no idea they could do that much damage by fucking around with some wires and the ignition barrel. I guess it really pays to have an alarm! Good thing you at least had an immobiliser!

Yeah mate, I live on Harris st, right next to the Goldsborough building. Used to always park my car on bulwara and upper fig st. Not likely anymore tho. U might've seen a silver 2000 Rx with 18s eyelids n cat back?
Yeh i was surprised as well, they say that the barrel itself costs a bundle, thats why its gonna cost so much.

Actually yeh, those rims do look very familiar. Probably seen you somewhere around the CBD as I'm there regularly.

And my car was broken into 2yr's ago. Still have the scrape marks on the drivers side window where they managed to pick the lock and get in. They got away with a couple burnt CDs...no lose really. But the door wasn't fully closed so the battery eventually ran dead that night due the dome light being on.

That prompted me to get a top of the line alarm and 3-point immobiliser and haven't had any problems since. I have a barrage of stickers on my car warning of the alarm system installed. Great deterrent that!

bugger sorry to hear mate! hope its all fixed up better than before. H
ad a guy break into my car last year, however it was in my driveway and my dog let me know what was going on quickly and my neighbour and I chased him down the street, lucky for the both of us he got away as he'd never walk again and I'd be in jail!
as with Bisteined this prompted me to spend as much as i could on an alarm/immobiliser

its a big bugger, any recommendations for where to get a good range security system? or just typical car electronic shops etc?
Aye thats how i felt provar, i wish i would have caught him in the act.. you should've kept powering on after him haha! lol if only. I'm sure they'll all get what's coming to them real soon.
If u see it again, give us a toot or a wave. Always nice to see fellow ozlib drivers haha.

Heres it at the mechanics. Had to take it all apart.

One good thing about the subaru's, not that easy to steal.
Someone tried to get into mine the other day, actually.
Failed miserably.. but them dirty redneck-junkies, broke the bloody keylock.

Shame I didn't take any photos, would've been a great DIY on fixing the lock, haha.

Re: Car broken into.

Man I sorta overlook why it is compulsary in Western Australia to install an immobiliser in a vehicle to get it registered, i guess if we didnt then we would see a lot of this over here. Im just so glad ive got my double lock up garage now as my brand new tuned by STi GT.b sat out on the street until 3 weeks ago when i bought my first house.

Sorry to hear about your damage, so with a new barrel does that mean a new key too?? Door and boot locks too??
