Broken EJ25

  Top of Page

Hi all,
I have an Outback 97. Didn't read this forum before I purchased it 1 week ago. I managed to overheat it and stuff the motor. It is a quad cam and I was after some advice on a replacement.
What is the best replacement?
My mechanic has quoted me $4500 to put a 6mth guaranteed second hand motor in. It will be a quad cam and I am not sure I want the same problem next year. My old 1988 touring wagon is in the farm shed and I wish I had of kept it registered!!! Never missed a beat for the very long time I had it.
Any advice would be welcome. Not the best way to introduce myself but you pay your money and take your chances.
Cheers,
Rick...

Ahh the dreaded 2.5L. So a head gasket?

You can rebuild it cheaper then 4.5K.

For that price you could drop a 2.0T in.

I'll see what I can find!! I only have one car at the moment so time is against me. Cash is always a challenge.

Hey Mate,

Welcome to Ozlib!

Damn that’s some bad luck mate. The ej25 curse...

I’ve actually got an EJ25 from a Gen 2 1998 heritage spare at the moment. I had the head gasket replaced about a year (18,000km) ago. I’ll be happy to let this go for a fair bit cheaper than that quote for replacing yours!!

Pm me if your interested

Cheers
