BP Scandel

  Top of Page

I turned on the TV tonight and got caught on channel seven watching 'today tonight', i normally don't watch this show but tonight they covered a story about BP...
They reckon that BP had been selling 91 octane petrol through the BP Ultimate(98 octane) nozzle to save money...
They stated that the entire company was in on it and there is an internal investigation going on.
Does anyone know or has anyone heard about this??

Haven't heard of this at all - but certainly hope it's not true, especially for all of those that were or thought that they were filling up on premium!

But - knowing how often Today Tonight stretch the truth, I wouldn't be surprised if it was all a load of bullsh!t.....

Regardless, it'll be interesting to see how this one pans out!

Hmmm. Interesting. I use BP Ultimate strictly for my fussy 100RON JDM ECU, without any pinging, loss of power or any issues.

Any key locations that have been identified?

it was actually 95 octane, and it was only 4 servos owned by 1 fuk whit, all the rest actually have 98...

the servos are on and around the pacific highway up north (gosford, cessnock etc)

Sold the Subaru, replaced it with a Honda.. but all I know is Subaru's! (and Holden V8's of course):secret:

Re: BP Scandel

Yeah well i use BP Ultimate religiously and i have had experiences of weird things happening on different tanks...
It mite help explain why i have gotten such random distances out of different tanks as well...
Or like you said it may be a 'today tonight' load of rubbish that they will apologize for covering in the next show.
But they did speak to a guy who seemed to work for BP and he wasn't really able to explain it but he did say that an internal investigation is going on...

This guy runs his stations around Ballina, Lismore Byron Bay Area.
I know the family, but can't really vouch whether this was a genuine mistake or not.

He was done for putting ordinary Premium Fuel in the Ultimate Bowsers, which means you would have beeen running 95% as opposed to 98%.
Probably not going to be a huge issue, but you still didn't receive what you paid for and that is the issue.

They also tested BP stations from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and they found that there was no discrepancy with what they were selling and providing.

Isolated incident.

imo, stick with the same servo(s) that you "trust" or haven't caused you any problems.  Hopefully that continues and you don't fall prey to these dodgy b@stards looking for that extra buck.  At the prices of petrol now, they shouldn't need to.......

Yeah 11 Bp Stations owned by this guy have been running lower octane fuel in the BP Ultimate for the last 3-4 months. Apparently the guy that owns them all is a bit of a crook. I went to fill up the other day and none of the BP's had ultimate, didn't know what was going on but that explains it all. Thank god my B4's still intact

Yeah, i didnt think of the ping factor. i wonder how many, if any High performance cars have been damaged because of this scam?

if that was the case, he could be up for a class action.

Hey im new to the site...

I thought i would add my experence to this thread, ive always run my Liberty off 98, but find theres a difference between bp and Shell (shells always better!) and as such i always fill up at Shell...

dont even go near Caltex anymore... though some out there might be interested to know Caltex and bp fuels are the same fuels...

hai, n00b.

best to introduce yourself, let us know what exactly you drive, and best to back up your outlandish claim.

I disagree with what you have to say. In all my experiences with multiple vehicles, I can honestly say, that BP's 98 Octane fuel has always been better than Shell's 98 Octane Fuel.

Re: BP Scandel

I'd have to agree with SOO081
I've owned probably 7 high performance cars over the last 3 years (3 turbo) and I have filled with Shell 98 and BP 98, and I have to say, that BP seems to give me the best bang for buck.  And I keep checking with  every 3-4 fill at the local Shell(and other locations of Shell), but still keep going back to BP.  Have to drive 5 Km to do this as well.
My 2 cents worth.

Use the same fuel regularly...  I use mobil and my car pings when I try BP..  it's used to mobil..

Re: BP Scandel

ill add my two cents to this discussion, even if its not totally relevant:) but over here BP charges the most out of anybody for their premium(98 octane) its often 7c more than mobil (min of 97.5 octane) so i use mobil as its cheaper and is only .5 octance less.. car seems happy with mobil so ill keep it that way..

I dirve an '01 liberty GX, just finished paying it off... so going to start moding soon, starting with lowering it, dont know where to go from there... suggestions welcome

I should clarify... my comment on bp 98 not performing as well as Shell 98 is purly from my personal experence, and its not a big difference just the car feel stronger and faster on shell. As for the caltex/bp fuel thing, i use to work at caltex, and have seen a number of delievers come in from bp, and the tanker drivers confirm it.

and some pics....
