Boost Gauge Pics

  Top of Page

I installed a boost gauge a few months ago now and finally had the time to get some photos up (sorry they arent as clear as i would of hoped...damn iPhone).

Its a shadow boost gauge, i think the colour scheme matches perfectly with the B4 cluster and i absolutely love it. I would say they look better than defi (which im sure some will disagree) and they have a black face so exactly the same as the dash.

I just went for a run through national park and checked my peak boost after and it was just over 20psi. My car is only tuned to 16psi so thats spiking quite a bit, however it was 9 degrees so sorta understandable. How much can B4's handle and how safe am i hitting that sort of pressure?

Cool, I read somewhere that B4's commonly peak at ~20psi at full boost. Forgotten where though..

Looks good though.

Nice boost gauge. Very satisfying mod to do.

IMO, 20psi is way to much, and I would be concerned about that. My car boosts primary 14psi (0.8 bar) and secondary 16 (1.1 bar) but my car is a Japanese Legacy so has a slightly different setup. I believe 15psi is the norm for B4s. I was under the impression that a rise of 2psi from factory is safe but anymore may cause issues.

I beg to differ. But I'm biased. big_smile

Matches the red rings I have on my B4 perfectly:

Plus, it's not all about the looks, it's all about the quality too. wink
So it doesn't do silly things like read at 20psi when it's not.

Agree to disagree. I saved myself a few hundred $$$ and am very happy. I love the mounting in the aircon thoug, looks awesome. I dont quite have the skills or time to fashion something like that.

And as for quality it is definitely reading 20psi. The car is tuned to run 16psi on both primary and secondary but i think the problem that im having is due to the small size of the wastegate. I have read a few posts around saying here that you get to a point when the wastegate is too small and cannot keep the pressure in the turbos down, and i think that is where im at now because im making close to 200atw. Luckily summer is on its way so she wont be boosting that high for much longer. But it only gets up above 16 on cold nights, and only above 18 when im driving hard on cold nights. Over 20 is a new personal best through the natio the other night but hopefully im not going to blow anything expensive.
