by LE7SGO on 25-01-08 06:56 AM hahahaha beez neez, i dont mind it for a honey beer but its not the greatest i dont find it special but every now and then i have a drop of it. knapstein has a very mild taste of honey or something saweet i havent had enough to actually spot it , its really a good beer hard to find and not cheap but its great when u get it. bee sting is a really good honey beer great taste but not over the top, its a good combination of the beer taste and honey. beez neez really isnt that great once youve had these.

Wow, just wow. Even a low quality taste in spirits? Wow. You made me read this on Australia day? Bastard. That Beam better be Small Batch. At a minimum, get yourself some Woodford Reserve... Please. For you, not for me. Knappstein is actually crafted by a winemaker, she has won a few awards for her Reds in the past. I think the beer is a bit heavy for the style it is trying to acheive, far too much sweetness on the front of the palette. The thick oily mouth feel makes it quite enjoyable though, it just seems 'too complex' for the style. Matilda Bay Brewery makes no beer whatsoever in WA anymore, Beez Neez is completely brewed and run through the pasturiser over east. Same with Bohemian (not bad if bought cheaply) and the rest of the line. This has been the case for at least a year, maybe two. No, not Japanese owned. Squires is run through the same bottling line as Vodka Cruisers! Though I will admit a Golden Ale at the end of the day is quite nice, the Amber is again too sweet for my tastes. I love beer. Gulpener has been getting put away quite readily of late in my house, along with the range of Weihenstepheners (worlds oldest commercial brewery). My latest favourite is John Bull Bitter, comes in a 568mL (pint) sized bottle - very enjoyable and doesn't tie you down to a food gr oup like a chewy stout or a hoppy pilsener. I really love beer. Let's keep this thread going, great idea. Maybe when you try a new beer, post up your thoughts here? Bit of a pic too - eg. ![]() This Saison Regal is regarded as the king of all beers, comes in a 250mL bottle. It is just perfectly balanced, for my money it tastes like an English hopped pale ale. Great drinking. Also, I urge anyone who really is getting into beer to buy yourself a proper tulip beer glass, like the stella tulip I've pictured. For aroma, even a big wine glass if you've got one is better than a straight glass - or worse - drinking from the bottle! Cheers, Nik |

Nice work mate, which drop are you sampling? My favourite is probably the pilsener. No worries mate. For a lot of people like me though, we are sick and tired of going to a really nice restaurant, paying 50/head and having to order some s**t like Becks or Corona. I can enjoy a cold CD (or any draught) at the end of the day mate, but I honestly believe beer is the new wine. The family business that I work in is a winery, and I think taking some of the basics of wine tasting into beer tasting is just a natural progression. We have winemakers making beer more and more nowadays, and in Western Australia we consume more premium craft beer than any other state - by a HUGE margin (ayee go WA!). Possibly is directly linked to the disposable income of most WA households being so high at the moment (yay for mines). I would hate the same stigma of snobbery to be associated with craft beer, but I think it is important that we support the surge of local boutique breweries in Australia. I appreciate your comment on the Tooheys, apart from Tooheys Old which, for the money, really serves a purpose. I honestly have trouble with the top five list of yours though mate, I would strongly urge you to pony up and try some other beers. I drink at Cowaramup Brewery every single afternoon, there English twisted Pilsener is absolutely sublime. Their Special Pale Ale - not smokey or burnt in its soft coffee characters, with a mouth feel of a strong lager. I don't think if someone is heading into the world of fine craft beers they should start with Australian beers. Getting a good knowledge of each style, from where it originates, will enhance your experience of the Australian versions of each beer. For example, a cloudy wheat beer like a Feral White can only really be appreciated after trying a Weihenstephener Weiss, or a La Goulaise, or similar. I am terribly patriotic (see my bogan car flags thread), but I think it is fair to say Europe really are the pioneers of beer. That said, we make beer for our climate, and our lifestyle. I love beer. Cheers, Nik |

Re: Beer thread |

by theprotest on 25-01-08 08:13 PM It is a bit of a misconception that Europeans have their beer 'warm' - most parts of Europe are a far colder climate than Australia, and the idea of 'room temperature' is an old one. This is originated from places where 6/7 degrees is the ambient room temperature, a standard fridge is about 8 degrees. |
