back to newb status

hi, just introducing myself,i'm looking into buying a gen 2 liberty as soon as i sell my late model land rover discovery. after spending 1000s and 1000s on lifts and touring gear i found i need to get a cheaper more practical run about/tourer. i found this forum and have spent days scouring your rides and i have to say i'm impressed... i plan to modify a gen 2 rx lib with coil-overs and average size oe wheels for a plain looking low car that will be driven to the ground before i need a motor.then maybe get serious..and,i've heard that suby's are reliable and reasonably priced...(everything that a land rover isn't) so please give me some info and recommendations or warnings in regards to mods if you feel the need to because at the moment i'm very cautious about having a reliable car... cheers.

Gday mate.
If you go for an Gen2 RX, have the engine check for any signs of a failing head gasket/s as they can be prone to it.

Where abouts in NSW are you?

....sorry by that i mean i want bang for my buck. getting practical and more  conservative as i grow up...albeit slowly.:jester:

Best bang for buck would be a turbo Gen1 IMHO.
Wagons for the Gen1's.
Sedans for the Gen2's. Again this is only my opinion.

If you really want a Gen2, try to find a 98 model RX-B. They came with leather, i a 5speed manual, climate control and Bilstien Struts.

apoligies if i'm pushing my luck, but what would i expect to pay for an average rx..rx-b? i am into riding and family trips so need a big boot or fold down seats...do sedans have those? also been researching kyb struts/whiteline flatouts...v's ksport c-overs and both a 20mm whiteline s-bar? comments? thanks in advance

I'd say around 10-12k for an RX-B these days.
The sedans have a fold down rear seat, and the boot is fairly spacious.

I personally have a 22mm rear whiteline sway bar, and a 22mm front sway bar.
The standard Struts are KYB's. Personally i think Coil overs may be a tad rough for traveling long distances.

ahhhh,so there's a bit of  rivalry with wags and sedans i see...? haha. thats classic.
i think the sedan looks as good as the wagon, however does the wagon get the same rear suspension/axles?
