M3 > all.

I had an E46 M3 for the day while my Bilsteins were in getting revalved at Heasman. I didn't really want to give it back to be honest.

I would very much like to see that same race again minus the wet weather conditions. I'm sure there would be more than a 10 second gap between the E46 M3 and B4 RSK.

Even though on their best laps, the E46 M3 was still ~1 second faster than the B4 RSK, however 1 second on the track IS a long time

It just goes to show that powerful rear wheel drive car can perform in the wet in the right hands, even with driving aids off.

Here is a few more comparisons.

Slalom - 8 pylons spaced @ 13m
B4 RSK 8.0 sec
E46 M3 7.9 sec

Slalom - 6 pylons spaced @ 30m
B4 RSK 6.4 sec
E46 M3 6.2 sec

Slalom - 10 pylons spaced @ 18m
B4 RSK 10.2 sec
E46 M3 10.1 sec

Please explain.

Why do you think they did it with professional drivers?

Even if you put said "hack" driver in the car, with driving aids, it'll make any average Joe look like professional.

At the end of the day, the E46 M3 (just like its predecessors, and now successor) was built to do a job, and that job it does pretty bloody well - which is more than likely why every manufacturer seems to benchmark against the bloody thing.

Or not.

The M5 and B4 are in no way comparable just as you say the M3 and B4 are not comparable. Perhaps another 5 series to a B4, but cetainly NOT the M5, especially considering the margin of horsepower derived from the M5 powerplant as opposed to that of the mighty B4...
