B4 TMIC Options

  Top of Page

Hi,

Was hunting around for info on TMIC for my B4, and checked your post of links and noticed that it could be plumped out a bit with some specific TMIC info.

So I gathered up the following links, specifically for B4 TMIC:

Hyperflow:

http://www.hyperflow.com.au/save_for_web_pictures/products/4.liberty_tmic_b4.jpg

http://www.hyperflow.com.au/liberty_b4tmic.html

Dimensions: 385mm x 155mm x 115mm core size
Max Power: beyond 260kW or 350HP

Kosti’s install of it:

AVO:

http://www.avoturbo.com/avoshop/product … cts_id=196

Dimensions: 380mm x 153mm x 116mm core size
Max power: 400hp
PSI drop: 0.5 psi @ 400hp
In temp: 150 deg c, Out temp: 57 deg c
Flow: 60 lbs/min
Weight: 3.5 kgs

ARC:

http://www.neweraparts.com/Default.aspx … ductID=654

There is also the option of going for a WRX TMIC which can fit B4’s, some need a bit of work, looks like the GDB is the correct version, as the blow off valve is at the front, not on the 90 degree pipe that the GC8 had.

Hyperflow 01-05 WRX:

http://www.hyperflow.com.au/save_for_web_pictures/products/3.01_05_tmic.jpg

http://www.hyperflow.com.au/0105_tmic.html

Dimensions: 485mm x 185mm x 115mm
Power: Beyond 260kW or 350hp

As installed here; http://www.ozliberty.com/forums/showthr … amp;page=2

but needs some customising of brackets.  A big cooler clashes with the primary wastegate - I had to modify the position of the wastegate actuator and adjust the actuator arm so that it sat about 35mm lower on the turbo housing. Now the intercooler sits in the engine bay flat with about 1mm gap between its bottom side and the actuator.  Also custom brackets on both sides and different hoses from the turbo outlets to the i/c.
Cooling Pro from Just Jap, halfway down the page, GDB WRX:

http://www.justjap.com/parts/new/intercoolers/cpintercoolerwrxgdb.jpg

http://www.justjap.com/parts_nintercoolers.htm

Dimensions: 510mm x 200mm x 113mm
Power:???

APS:

http://www.airpowersystems.com/wrx/my01/new_tmic/tmic.jpg

http://www.airpowersystems.com/wrx/my01/tmic.htm

Dimensions: 510mm x 190mm x 114.3mm
Power: 240 kW / 320 hp
PSI drop: 0.3 psi across the intercooler and 1.6 psi total pressure drop including the throttle body @ 240kW

Process West, supposedly suits B4’s as well.
http://www.processwest.com.au/website/img_products/wrx_tmic_5.jpg

http://www.processwest.com.au/website/p … p_tmic.htm

Dimensions: ???mm x ???mm x 90mm
Power: ???

I have sent Process West an email in the past regarding a TMIC specifically for the B4 or whether they had the knowledge of someone fitting this unit to a B4 but never received a response.

Perrin:

http://www.perrinperformance.com/produc … p;model=18

Dimensions: ???
Power: ???

If you know of other options, and can provide me with the links to chase up the detail I'm more then happy to add them in.

Also if you have installed any of these TMIC, and I haven't currently linked to you like I have for Kosti or Adrian, please send me the lilnk and I'll add it as well.

Cheers,

GT

Just a note on the Hyperflow TMIC's, they make a B4-specific version available here...

I'm in the process of buying one from them right now so will let you all know if it goes as smoothly as I think/hope it will.

Im pretty sure the 385,155,115 intercooler will fit on the b4 but the larger 510,200,113 intercooler is way too big and will hit on the primary turbo. I have fitted the larger of the two intercoolers to two gc8 wrx's and these needed substantial mods to fit including relocating the clutch master cylinder reservoir, making new intercooler mount brackets and modifying the firewall structure. I can take photos and give measurements of two similar intercoolers I have at my work that have come from china but are pretty good quality and will try and fit the smaller of the two onto my car.

Hyperflow FTMFW!

Most WRX/STI TMIC's will fit onto a B4. The only difference is te plumbing from the turbo's

a WRX Y-pipe and Stock BOV will fit onto a B4 top mount as if it was ment to be there.

Has any one on here got one of these hyper flow coolers on their car? Do they still get heat soak issues? would a front mount be better or are these top mounts ideal?

Mate, a bit behind but I have a hyperflow unit, and I found it in conjuction with an ECU reset to be a great investment. The car runs a lot better and smoother and the performance is a lot more consistent now. Its definately a worth while investment if your not planning on going mental with your mods. I weighed up a front mount and with all the chopping and intricate work to install a FMIC (including cutting up the crash bar) opted for the Top mount instead.

Hope this helps

Yeah the hyperflow is a good intercooler, was looking at getting the AVO one my mechanic told me had fitted a few and they are not that flash, got dump pipes and exhaust at the same time so its a little hard to comment on the effect of cooler alone, looking at the before and after dyno the pressure drop is much less on changeover now and it has a smother boost graph in general which might have something to do with the cooler. and yes heat soak is still there but it seems a little better, one of those things which is very hard to judge...

Anyone got an intercooler mist spray kit and care to discuss how they installed it. There was another member who came on the melbourne cruise a few months back who had a really good mist spray setup to avoid heat build up.

A front mount would be a better option in my opinion. There is a FMIC kit for the b4/GT legacy in NZ for that sells for around the 400 dollar mark.
