B4 Overrev

Can anyone tell me if it is normal for an 02 B4 to go up in revs when pressing the clutch to change gear? And yes i do make sure my foot is off the gas.:mda:

It's not normal for any manual car to rev up when clutch is depressed.

Even if there is no slippage under throttle when in gear?

I'm a bit unsure why you're all talking about the clutch being worn...
From what I can tell from the original post, the problem is that the car revs up when the clutch is IN, between gears, and the foot is OFF the go pedal, yes?
In which case the clutch obviously has nothing to do with it.

Thanks i feel a lot better now:P , just spent all me money on the 100k service.
Have you got any tips you can give me on how to drive around it. This is the first manual car i've owned, and i've never driven a car thats done this. It's really annoying when changing up from 1st to 2nd at full noise. i've tried slipping it in to stay on the secondary turbo but i don't like the feeling of doing that.

All manual cars differ, but with the B4, let go of the accelerator a second earlier than normal, and even if you do get the over rev, wait for it to come down a bit before popping it into the next gear..

you'll figure it out the more you drive it matey

mine is the same and in fact most modern manuals do this, its definitely not a problem with the car, its generally done to help emissions in some way. cant quite remember the exact details though.

The GX holds its revs a little too. No increase, but will hold the RPM at the same level for a split sec.

I thought this was a 'feature' of manual cars, a trim hat ?? (or some crap like that) which brings the revs down slowly as apposed to a auto which just drops the revs as soon as you take you your foot of the noise maker
