B4 Flash tuning options in Melbourne

  Top of Page

Currently looking at buying a B4 to replace my MY01 WRX

Would love to have a bit more power, and lessening of the VOD.

Would be looking at doing a few mods, but don't want to have it too loud, so I have a REMUS 2.5" exhaust that I may fit or get something else to let it breath a bit better but not significantly louder. Would also replace the under bonnet piping (such as turbo to intercooler etc)

Anyone you could suggest to get it tuned? Any sort of ball park ATW figures - would love around 175kW atw using the stock turbos.

Had good success with MPC, but I don't know if they tune flash

It all depends on your mods. Other members with a full exhaust have got around the 180kw atw mark.

Ive been to Springy Motors and they seem to get a heap of Subaru's going through there. Another one would be HPF, but have never been there, just head good things.

The tune that comes on Japan delivered vehicles? I've been in a Aus delivered B4 and VOD is quite noticable compared to my car.

I have just bought a Ezy-flash pro and am going to chiptoque today to get tune set for it.  I will let you know how it goes
Things People should know before buying a secondhand unit i did the research before buying but you could get caught

1. unit is unlocked from previous car you can check this by plugging it in to the OBDII port it will show on screen (unlocking fee $495)
2. that it is licensed for your car ring chiptorque with the serial number (new licence $110 and unit has to go to chiptorque)
3. tune sets on the device can be used but only with the same model car (tune sets are $275)
4. make sure all cables come with it (test mode switch $25)(OBDII cable $$$$)
pretty much if its locked get it for free or buy a new one

Chiptorque sell these unit via mail order with tune sets for your car for around $1115
Not just a flashing unit either it can also data log and live read plus check codes

Mine needs licence and tune sets but i only paid $200 for it so $585 all up and it then can be tuned by others unlike ECUCRAP(ecutek)

ALL UP AND RUNNING

PROS pulls alot harder and smoother sounds alot deeper and the live view option is great to find out what going on uder the bonnet
and you get an awesome sound when change over occurs
CONS they only have maps for TBE mod mine has CAI aswell so pings abit down low when day gets hotter(35)

I have now flashed it with the 95oct tune they gave me but still 98oct fuel and still pulls the same with little pinging(only after idling)
will be going for a decent drive to see if it can sort itself out

Well done, whats the VOD like? I think you are brave to go with the mail order ECU to tell you the truth. If it were me, I would rather head into a shop to get some sort of custom tune. Why did they tune it for 95? I thought B4s could only take 98 anyway?

I bought a secondhand unit $200 then took it to them to get it licenced and tune sets $385 that they already have
the tune set is as follows
base/stock = stock
valet = detunes car(granny style)
antitheft = car wont start
95oct 14psi
98oct 14psi

yes stock b4 can only run 98 but this tune has been made so you can run 95
so with the tune not being spot on for my car (which could be fix if i were to put factory air box back on)
i am runing it on 95 tune with 98 fuel

And at a later stage it will be going for a proper tune where it will go on dyno and they will tweak the maps i have now
Chiptorque want $350 an hour and probibly 3hrs to do it so the hunt begins for a tuner that doesnt want $1000 just to iron it out

VOD whats that lol I didnt have it before or after I dont know why(maybe big exhaust, CAI)

Subaru did this to get around the fact that their stock tune is a piece of shit. The chances of pinging with 98 is much lower than with 91/95. You can run whatever fuel you want as long as the ECU is tuned with that fuel in mind.

Done a bit of research and apparently SUBARU got VOD down to a minimium in Rev.D(the last of the real B4s) which is what i have

Have since run the car for about 2hrs and tune is working well now

if anyone around Brissy has a untuned B4 auto pref. and wants to do a data log (virtual dyno) so i can compare it to mine let me know
as i can use the EzyFlash on any car for logging

Really?? I'm sure you jumped in the car when i took that other young guy (who drive the white Gen2 wagon then converted?)

You would likely feel VOD in a stock (OZ) TT, moreso in an auto and its much easier to tune it outin the manual variant.

Test it if still unsure if you have it.  Floor it off the line, bang to 2nd at 3500-4000rpm and see if your head hits the windscreen for a second or so.

Good to see you happy with the tune mate.
