B4 aftermartket ecu options

 Top of Page

Hi Guys,

i'm new to forum and had a look around different threads today but couldn't find what i was looking for.

i am stepping into an 01 Liberty B4 by the end of the week and i'm wanting to know who has had the best results with different ECU's e.g ECUTEK, UNICHIP ect.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Theres heaps the BE5 forum mate. Either that or you can just search for Ecutek because it will come up in every single thread regarding ECU options for the B4.

Welcome to the site and hope you find it useful.

Welcome mate,

You need to ask yourself what sort of power do I want to achieve.

There are so many solutions around mate, just check out the electronics section too :victory:

mitchb4u,

Don't touch a UNICHIP for your B4. If got a 2002 B4 and had a Unichip installed by APS themselves. Long story short, I've blown 2 motors due to detenation.

I would get an Autronic or Motec standalone ECU controlling the primary turbo boost. Do it once, do it right! If not, I'd consider an ECUTEK reflash. Stay away from piggy backs for B4. PM if you want more info.

Mate you can get the best chip money can buy, but if you have a s**t tuner then there is no point!!
The industry is flooded with different opinions, the more you ask around the more confused you will become.:angry2:

As Mickey said I have a Utec installed and tuned by Vin at STI, I am more than happy with the result and it has not pinged at all even on the hottest days which is why i bought it in the first place:clapping: :clapping:

Hey Roob4, have you found performance more consistant even with warm temperatures?

I have an Haltech Interceptor and to tell you the truth if i was to go back and make the purchase again it would be for a Microtec, as i think the piggy backs have confliction issues with the B4 computer. My B4 is so tempremental and im seriously considering going the Microtec anyway!!!

I think a piggy back type is more suited to a single turbo application, not with sensors and exhaust and intercooler valves all running off a single wastgate!!!

Thanks heaps guys, i have a mate which has a 02 GT Forester which has an EcuTek in it and i seems to run quiet good. when he first had it done it pinged like hell on hot days, but it's all sorted now. Another friend has a 99 WRX which has 198kw at the treads. 2.2 stroker and the works, he runs a microtech LT8 and he and the guys whoinstalled it would not recomend that system for anything thing other than full throttle application ( drag & circuit )

Looks like the EcuTek might be the way to go...

I have great performance no matter what the weather is like, I haven’t pinged once even on the 35+ days!!

Mate you cant compare work done on foresters or WRX's to the B4 they are a in totally different league....

The twin turbo set up is more complicated that any of the other subaru models

dont worrie about which Chip/ECUTec you are going for try to find a Tuner that has worked on B4's before....

If they havent tuned a B4 before dont let them touch it!!!!!

Remember most workshops will say they can do it, what they dont realise is IT IS NOT A WRX

Couldn't agree more with roob4.
