any tips on my car..

  Top of Page

Hi everyone, was out driving the other day and felt i needed a little bit more power, was wondering if you guys know of anything i can do to squeeze a little more power out of my ej22, stock standard as far as i know it.

I have added a cannon on the exhaust to get it sounding nice though it does drone a bit on the highway, and ran a can of Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner through the vaccume line last week.

The funny thing is i was always a holden boy growing up, now i have owned a subaru, my first car, i dont think ill ever own another car that is not a subaru

Set fire to the cannon and get a real muffler. There's not really much you can do to squeeze any power out of the stock block - most people just do a turbo conversion, and that's really the best route on a Subaru.

haha i will defiantly get a real muffler when i can afford one! would love to do a turbo conversion, but being on "P" plates, mr plod wont let me have a turbo. Whats a rough price guide on a turbo conversion so i know how much to save up!

Was possibly thinking of installing a pod filter (with a nice heat shield and cold air duct) to suck a bit more air in! but dont know wether it would be worth it or not

hey man i also had a ej22 on my P plate back in the day, and the main mods i did to it were:
1: k&n pod filter cost me about $100
2: i got a custom made exhaust, it was almost a straight pipe with nice twin tips to finish it off and all this cost me about $300

then non performance parts i got it lowered and put 17inch 2003 wrx wheels on it.

Putting a $100 pod filter on an NA Subaru is roughly equivalent to putting $100 in a bin and then lighting the bin. If anything, using a pod filter will decrease performance from sucking in hot air inside the engine bay.

If you're on your P plates technically you aren't allowed to do any mods, not just a turbo conversion, so if you're concerned about legalities start saving for when you get off your Ps and buy a car that's already fast.

You might gain 0.25kw over stock.

Maybe.

IMO just focus on Aesthetics, sound and handling while your on your p's, that's what I'm doing.
You would be better of putting that $100 towards lowered springs or a new exhaust. Pod filters are for vr commodores.

Just enjoy the car while on your P's.  Save the extra $$ and upgrade/conversion once you're off it.  The killawasp output you get for the amount of $$ you spend on the N/A won't be worth it.
