Any rotor heads in here??

  Top of Page

Heya all smile

After the locked 20B thread i thought id ask if there were any rotor heads in this place??

If you have anything negative to say about rotors, start your own thread...

Those vids in the locked thread ring a bell!! hahahaaa
I was behind the camera for the first vid of the standard JC Cosmo baggin it up and the 2nd vid of BAD20B at the "1998 4s and rotor nats" you can hear me next to my mate with the camera screaming!! heheheheee
I actually helped drive BAD20B down for that show...
Back in the day...
I feel old...

I have a 12A bridgeport RX3 sedan i have built from the ground up over the past 7+yrs.
But drive a slightly modded MY02 wagz to work everyday, hence why im on here.

Only got here started for the first time a few weeks back!!
heres a short 5.5meg vid of the long awaited event!!
Ive done nearly all the work myself, less wiring, paintwork and engine assembly (did all my own machining though). Not much has been left unturned on her, the only untouched thing in the car is the steering column...
Im hoping to have her regod in the coming months. Then its cruise time!!

Anyone else into rotors??
Watcha got, experiences, stories??

Sounds awesome, my mates got an 808 with a 13b turbo conversion (out of a series 5 rx7). Put it on the dyno and pulled 170kw at the wheels, the things stock except for exhaust and the computer.

Funny that, i was listening to the pendulum album today in the car. Slam's a mad song!

Love rotors mate.
A mate has a series 3 race car. It's the loudest thing you've ever heard.
Also one of my dream cars is an FD.

I dunno what it is.... Apparently it was the former "WANKEL".

10A Nosecone, 4 door, white, and looks mighty purdy. I've been assured a ride in it today.

I'll try to post my sheer gaa-gaa'ness later on when the muscles in my face stop agonising me from smiling too much.

SOOO81!!

WANKEL is a tidy ride, sweet smile
Ive been in a few 600+rwhp cars and they are wikedly fast for the street.
As a rule of thumb i say 400rwhp for the street in a rwd is enough to get you into all sorts of trouble...

600rwhp on the street is plain stupid...

I want one big_smile big_smile big_smile

Re: Any rotor heads in here??

Okay, I'm tipping I'm a lot older than a lot of you guys - my first car was a 1975 RX-4 Coupe which I bought in 1982 (yes, 1982 really did exist) and kept until 1986.

Rotaries went through a really popular stage throughout the 80's and were seen as a viable alternative to a V8 and a lot of my friends had rotaries during that period.  I wasn't allowed to get a V8 so got a rotary instead (which dad later found out had the same performance as a V8 of the day).  Of course I pleaded ignorance & said I just liked the shape of the car.  It was an 'us vs them' battle back then between the V8 & rotary brigade much like the Holden vs Ford battle now.

Anyway, it started life as a stock 13B with 4 speed manual.  I put extractors & sports exhaust on first, then removed the vacuum control off the Hitachi 4 barrel carb and linked the primary & secondary throttle via copper wiring.  Sounds crude but it worked - made the carbie work like a double pumper meaning that all 4 barrels opened up when you floored it unlike the vacuum arrangement which needed 4000rpm to open the secondary ports.

Then after blowing the motor (which happens when there's no speed enforcement & you thrash the car all the time - ahh those were the days), I had an extend port done.  Bridge porting was common but they drove like pigs at normal speeds.  The extend port was smooth but with more torque & power everywhere.

Another common modification in those days was to put either a Ford 289 or 302 Windsor V8 with a C4 (3 speed) auto.  Manual gearboxes were too large to adapt.  Couldn't believe how much room there was to spare in the engine bay with the V8 & it really looked like it was meant to be there!

Anyway, I successfully dragged the car every Friday night at the 'Mole Factory' which was a vacant & undeveloped industrial estate in Campbellfield (Melbourne) off the Hume Highway.  Any of you with dads that are into cars (or were back in the day) will know about this place.  Once the cops busted everyone we would all go to 'Cherry Lane' in Altona & recommence activities.

Ahhhh....the glory days.

Ahh OK. Fair enough about Lance.

Your little 3 is absolutely melt in the mouth material! Absolutely delicious!! How I yearn to one day have a little RX2 S2 Sedan to build up....If I had three thumbs, they'd all be up.

Congrats on a super super neat ride you have there. 200hp ATW from a non-turbo is just something special!

LIB-04: However, I am not as old as yourself, I am a little older than some folk here. I myself used to be on the hate bandwagon when it came to the rotaries, but after a ride in one, I was an instant convert. I couldn't believe how much power these things can yield from such a compact package. It was (and still is to this date) tremendous.

The prices of these things now reflect their popularity. Definitely collector items now.

Mark - if you have any more videos (especially with Pendulum soundtracks!) POST 'EM UP!!

Keep up the love boys.....I'll be subscribing to this thread!
