Any insurance buffs out there?

  Top of Page

so anyway i just drove my parents car to the shops 30mins ago to get some batteries. I backed out of my parking spot and was about to drive off then the car in the parking spot opposite me decides to back out without looking and runs into my back right hand side door.

I got his details and stuff and he said he had full comprenshive insurance and it was his fault. But my question is im not insured with my parents car. Does that mean i will have to pay anything or will his insurance cover anything? im really stressed out over this.

il attatch some pics of the damage.

shouldn't matter dude. i was drivin my ex's car and a bus went up our a$$. both insurance companys knew i was driving, we never had to pay anything. im pretty sure (depending on policies etc) normally if someone hits u, if its not ur fault, its pretty much all up to ur parents insurance to assess it at a centre most likely, and then ur parents insurance company will contact the other dude's insurance company if they haven't already made contact. 99.99% sure it won't be a drama as long as u've got a valid licence.

he admitted it, he puts thru a claim. gives you the claim number and nominates you as the third party. you get the number ring up his company and make a claim against that number.

cheers for the info guys. will have to tell my parents this info when they get home.

suprauc i dont even know what they are?...pretty much all the damage has been confined the the door.

he shouldnt have admitted anything...

Policy wording...must never admit liability..:hi:

But you will be ok providing the details are as you advised..

You need to lodge it though with your parents insurer .  You dont want to be paying any excesses or anything.

Hate to be a stick in the mud, but you should count yourself extremely lucky that you weren't in an at fault accident. You could easily have driven up the back of a brand new Mercedes, and had no insurance coverage.

Even merging is usually deemed two at fault parties, even if one of the lanes was a complete dink.

Cheers,
Nik

FI: Dog leg is the bit where the door closes too, the Chassis rail is the bit Underneith the door, AKA the floor.

You may find that as it was on private property & you were both reversing out at the same time the other guy may change his plead at his insurance companies insistence, therefore you may be up for 50% of the damage, it might be cheaper to look for a door than pay a huge excess & lose your parents no claim bonus, same thing happened to a mate years ago & that was his outcome, hope you got a witness..........if not FIND ONE:grin:
