any good ideas for silicone removal??

  Top of Page

Hey all,
I am removing the plastic skirts that came on my RX (the plastic bits bolted on behind both sets of wheels). Anyways, removed the bolts and found they have been siliconed on.. so now I have silicone left on my paint.. does anyone have any suggestions as what could easily remove the silicone without harming the paint. Cheers

Possibly the worst thing you can put on paint & once it's set I don't think there is anything that will dissolve it, a careful razorectomy would be your only chance I'd say, slice off what you can & try to rub the rest off somehow or be prepared to re paint & hope it hasn't worked it's way into the metal cos you can't paint over it either.
Maybe ask a panel beater to see what they do when they come across it??

i got mine taken off on my gen3, the panel beater took them off and cut the skirts back and buffed them. cant really tell but because that part hasnt been exposed its a slightly different shade to the rest of the car... looks heaps better without them!!!
