Another Outback joins the fray!

  Top of Page

G'day All,
Just joined, thought I'd say hi.

HI! :victory:

Just purchased a 2002 3Gen white over Silver 5spd manual Outback.
This'll supercede my '99 Jackaroo (thirsty B*tch!!).
Anyways, it'll be used to carry me to and from work and to fish and pulll my two boys quad around on weekends.

Its soon to cope the good audio gear
Alpine Head deck, SPlits and Amp
Pioneer 12" 600w sub and 320w RMS Amp.

It may well get new induction (K&N or cold air) and better springs and shocks
Will also get a new exhaust
(any suggestions for either fit-out appreciated)

Yes Stew is my first name, so it's fitting really really.

Look forward to sharing my adventures with y'all.

Big Ups to Sheppo9 and Outbak (now we're at least a trio)

Rgds
Stew.
(I wanted a 99/00 WRX STi but the boss said I should grow up)

RX, I noted you specced an exhaust to a fellow new RX'er (2.25 cat back ect)
I am interested in similar, whats the cabin noise level like when you get 'on-song'.
I like the rex type burble but the missus'll hate it.
Any comments (on the noise, not my missus)
Stew.

LOL

Noice in the caban is all going to depend on the muffler you go for.

if you get a cannon, then it can be noicey in the cabin.

But a nice straight though muffler like Maganaflow, or Lucky, then it can be nice outside with performance, and quiet on the inside.

Big up to you too!! 3 of us now, we'll take over the boards soon.....
You should take a look at Subaru Outback.org aswell, some pretty good Outback specific stuff there.
Looks like your going to do very similar things to the car as what i've done.
1st thing you should do is get the biggest adjustable Whiteline Rear sway bar and some H.D links aswell, totally transforms the car.
The exhaust, don't get any bigger than 2.25", get a resonator (NOT a hot dog, but an actual resonator) and don't skimp on the rear muffler, as said above, look in to a Magnaflow or HiTech.
Then maybe get a set of X-Force or Borla/Borla "Replica" headers, I put a set of the replica's on last week and the car sounds fu#ken tops!!

Shep,
Whiteline "transforms" the car? lifted or lowered? or is it more of a handling thing?
Whats your overall ground clearance like now?
Factory quotes 200mm, I wanna at least keep that!!
What'd they sting you for the headers?

a rear sway bar does not affect the height of the car.
It reduces body roll.
Best upgrade for any wagon IMO.

The rear sway bar stops the arse end moving around alot in the corners, and as above, the best thing you can do to the wagons.

My ground clearance is a bit higher than a lowered RX, a bit higher due to the different bumpers, RX's have that sporty looking one, where Outbacks are the rounded type.

Maybe get a set of King's raised springs?
If you do want to raise it, and go bush in it, look here; Offroad Subaru's.

Heres a couple of pictures of mine thou, so you get the idea;
Next to a stock Outback

Rear bar clearance
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k213/bobbyjimmy/RearBar.jpg
Front sill clearance
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k213/bobbyjimmy/Front.jpg

I didn't take a picture of the front bar, as I've got a nudge/light bar, so it throws the picture and clearance off a bit.

Also, that 200mm clearance that they quote, is to the rear diff of the car which is the lowest part of the car, not including the exhaust, and my clearnce there is 130mm.

The headers cost me about $400 landed at my door, bolted straight up to the factory cat (which im getting replaced in a week or 2).
The car feels like it pulls alot better from low in the rev range now.
