Another new GT owner

  Top of Page

Hey all.
Be nice...
Picked up my 2005 GT manual on Friday. So far perfectly happy with it- performed great on a trip downsouth over the long weekend. After trading a 2004 Grand cherokee v8, I miss the torque, but nothing else.

Unfortunately both I and the GT were egged last night while parked (doin the righty) on my mobile phone. While i did give chase (applogies to anyone in Highgate, Mt Lawley etc for subaru in hot pursuit of screaming ef falcon) and have had the driver successfully charged for assault and malicious damage etc, It also means my pristine GT will be having its roof, bonnet, and entire right side resprayed. quote came to $2400.00:mad:
Thankf**k for insurance, and they will chase the offender.
Anyway. such is life.
Only things ive noticed so far is s**tty braking from high speed...pulsating pedal etc. I hear its common. Anyone comment on whether warranty would cover this at 50000km?
Other than that...whats a good engine oil?!

welcome mate, and enjoy the forums,

sorry to hear about the eggs (secretly Im laughing inside.. sorry)

call subaru about the brakes and see what they will do,

good oil is Castrol edge 10w-40, its what subaru would put in if they had half a brain.. but alas they dont, so they will give you Castrol edge 5w-30..

with 50k on the clock the 10w-40 will be great

(awaiting for someone else to put in their 2c about Motul or Royal purple - their not worth it.)

Sold the Subaru, replaced it with a Honda.. but all I know is Subaru's! (and Holden V8's of course):secret:

Re: Another new GT owner

cheers mate. Plan to change the oil myself this weekend.
No doubt many people will laugh about me being pumelled by eggs. I will. Eventually! you wouldnt believe the damage they do when they impact paint
The young idiot who did it laughed. until i spun a u turn and he realised his mums falcon wagon wasnt gonna cut it as a get away car.
BTW Perth coppers were on him (and myself) quicksmart..top work for once...and when they saw egg on my seatbelt....and saw it had hit me...done him for assault. brilliant.

mate thats gold.. haha.. i never thought an egging could result in a 2400 respray! thats pretty steep.. id get onto subaru about the brakes, see what they can do, especially if its under warranty still.. and im going to put my 2c in for royal purple 10w40, even though brendan will tell you its a waste of money, i havent personally used it yet but i will be next time i change my oil. there is some good reading here: http://www.ozliberty.com/forums/showthr … ight=royal
hope that helps.
cheers,
theo.
p.s. welcome to the forums, enjoy!

Classic, did you chase them all the way home, or did the cops enter the chase?
If you've only just picked up the car and the brakes are pulsating they should fix it for you.

They roared into the east perth passenger terminal, sort of got lost in the carpark,  then tried to double back...Cops had a car coming in from both ends, and they just parked up and attempted to play dumb. Apparently I was not the only one to have reported it, but was the only one quick enough to get behind them and get the rego!

Re: Another new GT owner

hey just caught onto the thread. maybe the cops should look into subys again (TOG in Shepparton had a WRX persuit car going back 7 years or so)

pricks for throwing eggs at cars though, they are a bitch to clean off to (know from XP someone egged the back of one of my cars when I was at a party so no chance of knowing who it was)

Good job on catching up with them though smile justice is served

Wow! nice work glad to hear it.

Yeh egg is not good, I've had to clean it off the back of my car once too, luckily it did not do any damage, just required some severe elbow grease!

I'd love to see pics of your car after the spray wink

bleh...maybe the pursuit of these idiots is the reason my clutch is now slipping...
after having the car a less than a week, driving it sanely (apart from the night in question) and buying it as a "subaru assured" vehicle still under ncw, Im now finding that the clutch problem and the pulsing front brakes have annoyed me a little. The brakes were mentioned when i test drove it- the excuse being the discs were slightly corroded from the car sitting in the yard, and that it would go away. It has got worse. especially coming down the hills from roleystone every morning.
Watch me scream when they attempt to say it wont be covered under warranty.

oh- and i dont ride the clutch, and i do use the gears coming down hills. One brake from 100kmh is enough to set in the wobbles...and grinding just before a stop.... I didnt think a Subaru dealer would sell a car with brakes like that.

my folks had this kind of problem on their new volvo v70.. the dealer said it was just from sitting in the yard and that it would go away after a while, however it didnt go away and the shuddering was really starting to piss everyone off. so what we did was get the discs machined, apparently there were all uneven which was causing the shuddering. it wasnt very expensive to get them machined so maybe this is what your car requires.. if its under ncw just have a tanty till they cover it:)
cheers,
theo

Only in Roleyrock until I find a place in the city again! Too f**king cold! I work away so it isnt easy finding something in Perth tat the moment.
Roads up there are awesome fun tho, and im impressed with the lib's headlights on dark curvy roads compared to the grand cherokee i traded.

I did the margaret river region long weekend just gone. And spent half an hour driving around Bunbury on empty looking for BP Ultimate at 11 at night on the way down. Good roads, good scenery, good wine! perfect! Shuddering brakes- took the edge off it:Dntknw:

I’d love to live out in Roleystone! Peace and quiet. Not to mention all those winding roads! Lots of fun to be had. Different breed out there though… they don’t take kindly to strangers! Haha

Know what you mean though, the rental situation is fecked up! Even worse if you want to by. Bloody boom!

have a look at my previous post, it could help.. stopping in the volvo was horrible before we had the discs machined, having the steering wheel shaking in your hands is rather unpleasant, but now its great (for a massive family wagon:))..

Re: Another new GT owner

oh absolutely. They definately need machining.
Subaru aggreed when I booked it in for next week, although he commented it would be chargeable and asked me when the pads were last changed (if they ever have been). He looked the car up but didnt seem aware I have only taken delivery from it from them a week ago. I will be interested to see what he says when he calls me after I've dropped it in. If they have sold me a Subaru Assured vehicle with bugger all pads left and warped rotors, not to mention a clutch thats slipping after i have done less than 1000km, they are going to cop it.
Fair call if I had been on a race track or something but I havent.

totally agree with you there mate, if its subaru assured they should be fixing it free of charge as it has their assurance on it, and if their going to give you an assurance then maybe it would be a good idea if they checked minor things like brake pads etc... what good is a NCW if you have to pay to have things fixed, i thought the idea of a warranty is to be covered when something bad like this happens.. well thats the end of my little rant:) hope it all gets sorted out quickly.
