Another B4 owner, But a North Queensland one!

  Top of Page

Hey whats cracking,

My name is Kenny and I'm living in Townsville FNQ, and about 6 Months ago my wide and I found our MY02 B4.  It's stock white, manual and standard blue and black interior etc, well you'll all know how they come.

We were lucky enough to get it a very good price through the local car yard as they didn't really know what it is or what is was worth, but we knew :victory:.

Living in Townsville and reading about the B4 before having one, we have to be very carefully as she pings a fair bit coming into summer.  This is where is I guess try not to sound like a wanker by listing all my future plans.  Budget premitting of course?

Step 1.

CAI (Airbox and piping replacement)
2.5" Dumps into 3" exhaust, with muffer (NO CANNON & all S/S)
Fuel Pump Upgrade
ECUTEK 3 retune (because of future plans)

Step2.

Headers (Zero Sports or Fijitsubo)
Redesigned Exhaust valves (to replace restricted factory units)
Intercooler upgrade (Water 2 Air Space permitting or FMIC if not)
Alum Radiator Upgrade
Oil Cooler

Step3.

Well not sure, by this stage I'll have to start looking at alot of things, Turbo's. injectors etc etc...

My goal is see how far bolt-on mods can take us without cracking the engine open.  But that said by this stage who knows what I will want as the end result (Horsepower Bug)

I guess a fast sleeper/streeter that run's somewhere between 12-13 sec that can do it all day every day.

But thats what dreams are for.

Cheers Kenny

Welcome to the forums mate.
I would also look at getting methanol injection into the intake manifold as an aid to cooling charge.
I've got a mate running it on an my00 WRX and during the really hot period here in Brissy, he'll track his car hard at QR (37-38deg) and his autronic logs show the difference in knock and charge temps by using it.

if all else fails, no 1 must do, is some sort of re tune or re flash. getting a few things done at once is ideal but not always affordable. i settled for a reflash first tek 2 ,saved the cash and my engine until i could afford a tbe, hyperflow tmic, walbro pump, k+n airfilter, fujitsubo extractors, moddified ecv, enlarged wastegate then got a tek 3 which is just a custom tune.
each time you do a new mod like headers etc you'll need a retune so having a plan is ideal.
lust remember after your step 2 you'll need another retune and if you go ahead with step three , another one.

Cracka, I get the impression from reading the posts on here that the Type 2 and 3 ECUTEK are very simular, but the type 3 has more tuning scope in the long run?  And is easier to tune?

fatcat67, Autronic what be great as thats what I'll wanted to use for my project but sadly there's no one here to tune it,  I have to drive to Cairns to get any work done.

jeffysfinal, Yeah i was amazed how much I have learnt from this forum.  The ECU reset post saved me from pulling my hair out recently.

Cheers Kenny

Autronic and twins don't work. And that would be Ray Hall up in Cairns, Yes?
Kosti tune maybe?
Your problem is heat and humidity. I would highly recomend a FMIC with water sprays, and a dose of methanol injection with a ECUTEK3 tune.
It depends on what you want from your car. If your after heaps of performance then sure do your exhaust and all the other mods. But if you want to keep it fairly stock and reduce the VOD and pinging and up the power a bit that ought to do it.

Welcome aboard.

Brave man for buying a AUDM B4, and living in FNQ!

I like it up there, but the heat would be killer! Not to mention the Red Tide, and the stench!

Hope you manage to source at least an ECU re-tune fairly quickly!

Keep us updated with your ventures.

SOO081, yeah it's sometimes very frustrating given that up until I reset the ECU it pinged @ anything over 25 deg. using more the half throttle.

BEEFOUR I thought I had seen you were from townsville, although i can't say I've seen many B4's up here.  I'm told there's at least 2 others but I've only seen a silver Auto one.

rxliberty2000,  Thanks mate, over time I hope to learn as much as I can so I can help our B4 become what it should be.

Cheers Kenny
