Advice needed...

  Top of Page

hi,

i have a work mate that is looking into buying a liberty :victory: , he is either going to spend a bit more (around the 20k mark). or buy something a bit cheaper if he cant find the right one.

he is currently interested in looking at some gen III's, these two in particular...

CAR 1
http://www.drive.com.au/used-cars/SUBARU/LIBERTY/Melbourne/detail.aspx?id=3375750&pg=2&pp=11&d=0&nv=1&SG=122490924

CAR 2
http://www.drive.com.au/used-cars/SUBARU/LIBERTY/Melbourne/detail.aspx?id=3363709&pg=2&pp=9&d=0&nv=1&SG=122490924

they are pretty much identical cars and price.

can any one please shed some light on gen III's of this type in general, good or bad and what we should look out for when purchasing these cars...

thanks in advance for your help.

Dude..  the black one's a GT-B!!!!

But the silver one says E-type...  and bilsteins..

Look for leaks and ask about the head gasket change..

Good buying!!  I'd go for the silver one (e-tune)??

black is a hot colour for a wagon and pretty rare i think.. but i would go with the e-tune over the GTB myself.. i think the etune body kit looks the goods..

I think they both look good but even though the black one has more "k's" on it it still only equates to 15,000 a year which is below the average of 20,000. Definitely worth a look. smile

thanks for your comments guys.

can anyone tell me what this e-tune thing is, i have never heard of it?

is there any other major things i should look for when inspecting the car? im gonna look closely for any rust and just general wear, but is there anything else that was a problem with this gen?

i think the difference is in the body-kit, i know for sure that the e-tune has a different grille.. and maybe a different front bar too.. aside from that im not sure, as both the manual gt-b and e-tune put out 206kw and the same tourqe... hope some else can clear this up a bit..

My impression was that the "E-tune" had a slightly more aggressive tune than the ordinary GTB? (hence the name...."e-tune"...perhaps could mean "electronic tune"?)

In saying that, the black one looks porno.

the grill in the silver is after market not standard. to me it looks like an original gt-b. the black looks stock except for the wheels...personly i would go with the silver.as black is hard to keep clean and silver doesnt look dirty...k's well if they are originaly imported from japan all i can say is good luck because what they do is buy another dash with lower k's and put it in...i have seen it done..e-tune means sport shift auto

Or they roll back the numbers..  so check for the digits in the speedo lining up straight, instead being like a pokie machine halfway through a spin..  Your mate should really have 2-3 grand sitting aside for repairs if he's considering a tt jap-import..  don't get me wrong, great cars, but plenty of things to fix!  Oh, now it just sounds like I'm trying to put him off..  that black one is sex!!!  I want it!!

Re: Advice needed...

we're going to have a look on tuesday most likely... he seems pretty keen so i guess if it checks out mechanically and no rust etc he will buy it.

just gotta take a gamble with the imports, and hope that he is genuine. and if he is not then hopefully we will be able to tell. :victory:
